About a month ahead of its 20th April release date, God of War has officially gone gold, meaning development of the game itself is now complete.
The game's director, Cory Barlog, took to the PlayStation Blog to say a few words about his time working on this PS4 exclusive. "This was the scariest, most wonderful thing I have ever done and I can honestly say it would never have been possible without the full-throated support of Sony and the tireless work of the incredible team at Santa Monica Studio. We have been through a lot together and I would not change a thing. You are the best damn team a director could ever hope for and I am thankful beyond words for every ounce of passion and pride you put into this game."
He's clearly very proud of what he and Santa Monica Studio have created, and has an emotional attachment to the game's story and themes. He adds, "Because this story is about fathers and sons, I wanted to thank my father, James Barlog, a source of inspiration and a great writer, who instilled within me the drive to create and the fortitude to survive the difficulties that come with that vocation."

I like to think that if there's an infinite amount of universes, there will be a few in which Cory accidentally sends the disc to me and I'll be playing this game next week. Am I living in one of them? I'll let you guys know next week!
I'm excited since the E3 reveal, really missed the series, it will be great to play again a game created by the talented folks of Santa Monica.

Really pleased for Santa Monica, it's been a tough few years for them with the cancellation of Darkside with over 50 people losing their jobs then having to start GoW from scratch. All while moving to a new studio as well.
I preordered my copy earlier this week. I can't wait to get my hands on it!
@Octane Yeah but what happens if that universe where you receive the disc is also one where you have no arms/hands, or have gills and live underwater with no safe electrical sockets?

@Turismo4GT For some it will be, yeah.
@Turismo4GT It's obviously coming quite late in the PS4's life but it's clearly aiming to be a super high quality game. Sony's biggest exclusives have all been system sellers to some degree (Uncharted 4, Horizon) and I don't think God of War will be any different.
If it ends up being as good as it looks, I think there'll be some people buying a PS4 to play it.
@ShogunRok @get2sammyb Thanks, I expect if this game is as big as it seems, it'll help Sony eclipse the PS3's lifetime sales total earlier than expected.
@Turismo4GT i reckon this will absolutely shift consoles. But the next game that will really see consoles fly imo will be Spiderman. I think the strength of the Spiderman brand is absolutely huge and if sony get the advertising right, they are going to do very very nicely for themselves.
GoW will be an imcredible game though and i reckon will have a very high attach rate for existing owners.

@Turismo4GT God of War historically has sold quite well, from what I recall, and it's clear this is a big deal for Sony - they're pushing it pretty hard now - so I'd imagine this will shift a few consoles.

Spider-Man is going to be bundle fodder and will absolutely be a system seller.
@porhawj2016 Yeah what @get2sammyb said. Spider-Man is a definite system seller because of the name alone. As for Detriot... Probably not. It's not quite up there with the biggest names in Sony's library.

I think system seller is a silly phrase personally. Any game can be a system seller to anyone. There are many people who will buy a PS4 purely for FIFA; heck, I bet you at least one person out there has bought a PS4 for That's You after trying it at a friends.
Content is the reason we buy these consoles, and PS4 has the most diverse offering of all, so will have countless system sellers.

It's complete. Until a day one patch and similar updates. Still psyched for it though
My daughter has already beat it and she was calling me bragging all the time video chatting showing me and I didnt even have a Playstation 4 yet! Well I do NOW!!!! Im on the Ancient Stone Boss and hes BAD!!! BUT I WILL CONQUER! Headed back to take him down! Not taking no for an answer this time! Also when I went to get the game it was the LAST ONE on the shelf! SOLD OUT! Never doubted that anyway! Ive played all the God of Wars! So far this one is OUTRAGEOUS!
