This is pretty mad: today saw the launch of the demo version of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, but SEGA inadvertently published the full, unlocked game on the North American PlayStation Store.
When you download the demo, you're actually downloading the whole game (hence the size), but the majority of the content will remain locked off until the game's release on 17th April. The idea is that you'll be able to play up until a certain point and keep any progress you make, including any unlocked trophies, so you can pick up where you left off come launch day. For most of us, this will be the case, but those who downloaded the demo from the US Store early enough may be able to access the entire game.
Some players have found an exploit that allows them to keep hold of it, too. SEGA has naturally pulled the demo from the Store to prevent too many people from obtaining what is effectively a free copy of Yakuza 6.
Whoops.

Never change Sega.
It always seems to be the American part of Sony that makes these mistakes. Can't our guys start making a few like this too?
Lol
What a colossal cock-up. This essentially means that the game is finished, too, so the question is, why was it delayed into April in the first place?
@ShogunRok Bugs? I mean it makes sense that the stuff beyond the demo may not be as fully polished as it should be.
@ShogunRok
Ninja Zen business strats.
Awesome! My download finished 3 hours ago! Waiting for the kids to go down before I play.
This will be my first ever Yakuza game. What a treat it would be to be introduced to a new series with a free game that hasn't even come out yet!
Is there anyway to tell if it's the 'full' version or the demo version? Or were all US downloads the full game?
@Jaz007 You'd think anything polish-wise would be unlikely purely because the game's been out for ages in Japan.
It's gotta be something outside the box I reckon.
@fontainelefunk I'd love to think so but... I'm not not sure putting it right next to God of War could be deemed Ninja Zen.
... Or could it?
Go offline and finish your free game lol
Pretty mental story which raises many questions. Would love to know what’s going on with this game that’s caused SEGA to delay it/drop a clanger like this.
Dang, if it’s a game I’m really into I’ll just skip the demo and go straight to the game when it comes out. But I should have downloaded this one for the heck of it.
Majima must be running Sega of America and just pulling this stuff in an effort to face Kiryu the sworn protector of Pocket Circuit.
Gonna try out the Valkyria Chronicles 4 Japanese demo then.lol
@ShogunRok I'm betting it has something to do with pachinko and possibly a hostess side quest.
I remember 2K did a similar mistake like this on PC when Mafia II came out. If you pre-ordered Mafia II you got the first Mafia for free but instead of making it available for people who pre-ordered it through their site they accident made it free for everyone. Still have that copy too on my PC now if only my PC worked.
@SEGA Epic facepalm! xD
@ShogunRok
So it can not sell, obviously. I can't think of anything releasing in mid-March that would've buried this game the way God of War will. I know, I know, 'different audiences,' blah blah blah. There will be some crossover and for sure most people will choose GoW. Typical Sega though, can't even get a freaking demo right. And I'll admit, I'm a bit butthurt about it because I was looking forward to getting to play a little bit of this game while I wait for the full release. Oh well, back to Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds.
@Tsurii I'm pretty sure it was Yoshi's Woolly World.
@Tsurii I don't remember that happening with Nintendo but I don't buy to many Nintendo games digitally, but I wouldn't be surprised.
@ShogunRok I'm guessing the delay was needed to manufacture the items in the special edition, bar glasses break...
Omg I wish!!!!
Maybe the last part has got some Japanese still and that's why it was delayed??
Damn, why couldn't this happen to me? anyway downloading the Demo later today
I would not want to be the guy that had to report this to the suits at SEGA.
Didn’t they/Sony mess up similarly with Yakuza 5, when it was available for free a month before it become a PS+ game?
Wonder how many people got a free copy?
Yakuza 6 is really fighting an uphill battle, between this & releasing around GoW. I really wish they didn’t delay the game.
To be honest, I wouldn't download it if I could. It's a franchise that needs the sales to keep getting localized. I see it the way I see piracy. I respect developers too much to not pay for their hard work.
Sony made similar mistakes in the past. The most common I have come across is in PAL regions where some Plus games are not available and there are replacements all of those games appeared as free. Moreover some PS4 that are not cross buy appear as free if you have the Vita version.
@naruball I agree on this one for sure. It would be a shame if they do not release a new game because it did not sell enough.
The demo is not on the european store? Can't find it
Hey EA / Ubisoft, forget your loot boxes....follow in Sega's footsteps and release full games for free!!! You'll be far more popular with the Gaming Community. 😂😂😂
easy mistake lol
Nuts! I had to fix my car instead and so I had no time.
@Tsurii Problem was, the game was trash. Color trash that is.
