Yesterday, we reported on a supposed leak that appeared on gaming forum ResetEra. The poster claims that Devil May Cry 5 is in the works, and that it was due to appear at the PlayStation Experience next month. However, that plan was pushed aside, and it'll apparently be revealed next year instead.
That same poster has now updated their information, adding a potentially juicy detail: supposedly, Devil May Cry 5 is very likely to be a PlayStation 4 console exclusive, launching on Sony's system first before coming to PC later. Interesting if true, because it sounds similar to what Capcom did with Street Fighter V.
We sound like a broken record at this point, but as always, there's no real way to determine whether this is utter nonsense. The user in question will be permanently banned from ResetEra if their leak turns out to be a dud, but apart from that minimal insurance, there's nothing else to go on other than the fact that Devil May Cry 5 rumours have been going around for years now.

Will believe it when I see it. I'm not even sure I'm convinced this exists.
@get2sammyb I think a new Devil May Cry game must exist in some form, but I'm just not sure what that form actually is.
These rumours and leaks sound plausible enough (for the most part), but I'm still not convinced either.
@YummyHappyPills I think one look at Monster Hunter: World tells you all you need to know about where Capcom's money has been going over the last couple of years.
what they should do is keep the classic series on PlayStation and move DmC to XBOX
@YummyHappyPills But it's not like Capcom's going to ignore Nintendo hardware from this point, is it? I know Capcom's a bit mad but it's not mad enough to abandon a huge, established Monster Hunter market in Japan.
World's a different beast entirely. There's no way it's going to replace the portable series.
@FullbringIchigo But I loved DmC!
@get2sammyb not saying it's bad, i liked it too but if i remember right it sold better on XBOX than PlayStation where as the HD Trilogy sold better on PlayStation than XBOX
IF Capcom had the different versions on each system not only do both get a Devil May Cry BUT they also get an exclusive one AND they could even partner with Sony and MS on each games production and distribution
@FullbringIchigo lol harsh
I love DmC too! It's a great game undeserving of all the hate
@YummyHappyPills I think you said it yourself. MHW was less of a risk four years ago. But why abandon all of that work now the Switch is a success? And surely they're also working on a portable title.
Don't care if it's exclusive, just make it happen, please.
They should just cancel PSX if theyβre not going to bother showing anything off or having a presser, in my opinion. Iβd love to see this and Soul Caliber 6 pop up, but it definitely wonβt be there, so not getting my hopes up.
@FullbringIchigo Xbox sucks. That's why they don't make their games for them
Yes a new real Devil may Cry. πππ
@get2sammyb Play Devil may Cry 3 and see a the real Dante Im still insulted with the terrible PS3 remaster though.
@YummyHappyPills Why so salty. π π
@YummyHappyPills Capcom don't have much money to make many AAA titles back to back. Look at how many remasters/ports have come to PS4. Okami, Resi 0,1 4,5,6 and Veronica, Mega man collection 1 and 2, Dead Rising 1 and 2, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Marvel vs capcom 3, Dragon's Dogma and the DMC's. Even their next gen releases have had cut backs to them in terms of budget, Street Fighter V need additional funding from Sony, MVCI had a quarter of SFV's DLC budget even Resi 7 went back to basics with first person and largely one setting which probably saved a few quid. As for Monster Hunter, well the franchise started on PlayStation so if anything's kind of a homecoming, plus it makes a change for the franchise to be on a big screen again instead of a portable which suits me cos I wouldn't play a game like MH on a Vita screen let alone a 3DS.
Only buy it if I black hair Dante comes back.
@YummyHappyPills Okami makes sense. Xbox One and PS4 are x86 machines. The Switch is ARM, meaning they have to port the engine and put extra resources into a Switch port. They probably don't want to. Releasing it on PS4 and Xbox One is as easy as printing it on a disc and shipping it to the stores.
I could never get into DMC so not overly concerned about a new entry in the franchise - not unless its had an overhaul of the things that DMC is known for but then those DMC fans would be disappointed so I can't see that happening. I guess they could go the same way GoW appears to have gone.
Anyway, no doubt if it is a PS exclusive or even just some Marketing deal with Sony, we may get to see it at PSX which isn't far away now...
@YummyHappyPills It's developed on a PC, so they have a version up and running on PC. They're not going to port the Wii, PS2 or PS3 version to PS4 and Xbox One and update those.
So if this is true sounds like Sony must have paid for the rights to it, cause if not I would find it weird that Capcom skipped the X1X
If Sony had to front the development cost to make this happen, so be it, I'll be happy if the game actually exists. At this point though, I wish Sony or Nintendo would just buy Capcom and get it back on track.
@Gamer83 to be fair if Sony or Nintendo did buy Capcom they would be getting hold of quite a lot of popular IPs
Kamiya, give us Bayo 3!!
Capcom avoids Nintendo and X1 doesnt sell in Japan so this is believable. Still willing to try it if it is good.
In Japan sure, but definitely won't be exclusive in the West.
While I think that you guys are right to post this rumor, it's almost like everybody is saying something, so eventually one will be right or close enough.
@viciousarcanum
If it's similar to the SF V deal it'll be 'console exclusive' everywhere. Ideally Capcom would get itself together so it wouldn't have to keep taking handouts but that ship seems to have sailed.
Would love if it was a full exclusive, not only a "console exclusive", haha.
Anyway, there is no point to release Japanese games on Xbox One, these games don't appeal them, many Japanese developers are already ignoring the platform, even more after what happened with Scalebound and the relation of MS with Platinum.
Xbox One X(Squared) sold a 1000 consoles in Japan so I think they should get it.
I`m not sure if it would be exclusive. capcom want`s to publish monster hunter for every platform for the first time! so no.
maybe it`s time exclusive or has exclusive codes and DLC but full exclusive?!
anyway i think it`s not even exist lol
Hmmm, we'll see what has to be said about it at next E3. Personally, shooting for console exclusivity isn't a good idea for Capcom right now. XBO has the DMC4 remaster and MHWorld is releasing there too...seems nonsensical to cut out that much sales potential for no reason.
@BraveFencerZan not if the rumour is talking about Japan where the XBOX barely sells and it's been done before where a game was PS exclusive in Japan but released on both PS and XB over here
Metal Gear Rising for example
@FullbringIchigo Very good point and if this rumor is true I hope that's the case.
It isn't a brand-loyalty thing for me, I just think they should put their big titles on as many platforms as possible and grow the communities. RE7 and MHWorld seem to be going in that direction.
@BraveFencerZan to be honest if it was a PS4 exclusive, an XBOX exclusive or multiplatform i don't really care, i just want the rumour to be true that we ARE getting a DMC5
I won't believe it until there's an official announcement or retailers leaking the game pages online etc.
