So, Red Dead Redemption 2's much-hyped story trailer landed yesterday, giving us our first... Well, our first proper look at Rockstar's sequel. The video introduces Arthur Morgan -- an outlaw who we all assume is going to be the lead character. Morgan runs with the Van der Linde gang headed by Dutch, who you may remember from the first game, confirming that this is indeed a prequel.
Anyway, we want to know what you think of what is possibly the most hyped trailer of 2017. Did it whet your appetite? Are you desperate to see more? Or did it leave you disappointed? Vote in our polls, and then try not to start a bar fight in the comments section below.

Was okay. Look, Marston was the best thing about the last one for me. So this new guy has some work to do. But I'm sure I'll end up loving him too. Hope the story is as good as the last one though.
I didn't love GTA5 so I'm not gunna get tooooo excited about Rockstars next big open world game.
I still think the first RDR is Rockstar's best game, so this is gonna have to be something really special. That said, I do think the trailer set the mood very well and I look forward to seeing more.
@ShogunRok Pretty much (Big fan of MP3 over here, though..) and I do wonder how they managed it. I didn't even like the Western genre until then. It made the Wild West cool in my head.
It just did so many things right and didn't try to do too much either, such as multiple protagonists.
In the last game John Marsdon was a man who did wrong in the past, he knew what he did wrong and tried hard to redeem himself. He became honest, respectful, trustworthy and took no prisoners when it came to dealing with any bad people, that's what made him such a likeable character, this guy morgan seems an absolute piece of ***t and doesn't come across as likeable at all...a bully with a knife and a gun...me no like ...but I'm going to get the game anyway!!!
@chris730920 I'm pretttttty sure this game will have something called "character development" bro
@kyleforrester87 yeah you're probably right... Rockstar are great with characters, look at GTA5
My favourite bit was the crocodile. I need to see some gameplay to get me really hyped
Man 2018 is going to be insane on PS4. Ni No Kuni II, Red Dead 2 and God of War all coming earlier in the year and then Spiderman, Kingdom Hearts 3 and most likely Days Gone and Detroit Become Human not to mention a whole heap of games we don't even know about yet. Being a gamer is so good right now!
It wasn't one of Rockstar's best trailers but it was still pretty good. I'm quite intrigued about this Arthur Morgan fella and i'm sure there will be some redemption to his character. It's crazy how a lot of people are all pessimistic about this one trailer. There is one guarantee about this game, the sandbox to play in will be technically superb and will look gorgeous.
The trailer did the job for me. No real details, no sense of plot but enough to know it is going to look good and feels like a really good western. All I needed really. RDR was the only Rockstar I've got into since the PS2 era so, to be honest, more of the same please. No in game currency please.
@Rudy_Manchego wouldn't surprise me if they implement poker/ gambling where chips can be bought with real money.
So, what's Rockstar's overall history with DLC? I recall that zombie thing they did Undead Nightmare, so is it safe to assume that if this game releases in the spring they'll already have DLC planned for the fall? Is it going to turn into FFXV Universe?
Game seems popular enough so I wouldn't' blame them, it has MMO-like potential w/ a huge open western world, but I've made up my mind not to buy games anymore until their done. All this DLC lately seems like an excuse to release buggy games that require at least 2 or 3 patches and updates to fix. So while I wait for them, might as well wait for the rest.
Hoping really hard GoW and Spiderman take the time to finish before releasing.
I was already hyped about RDRII because of my love for the first.
@kyleforrester87 @chris730920 I agree about Marston being the driving force of RDR and one of my favorite all time video game characters. Hopefully they can capture lightning in a bottle again and develop this new protagonist. I mean hey, look how Naughty Dog made such a bang-up awesome Uncharted without Nathan Drake! Crossing my fingers.
It was a good trailer, thats all. Didn't do much for me, I just so wish this had been westworld instead.
I'm just waiting for "GOTY editions" or complete editions for games from now on. I have plenty enough to play without paying more for "incomplete" games and for the sake of playing game just released.
@gamer_since_83 Honestly, I am expecting something like it. Shark coins or Shark bullion or some such. It probably won't affect my decision to buy the game as I am not interested in online play but I would bet my left one on it.
@rjejr Rockstar don't release incomplete games, they never did. The DLC has always been extra and the single player campaign very much polished.
Red Dead Redemption is one of the only games I ever bought on release. It was... perfect.
It was pretty good. Facial animations could use some work, but at least they're better than Andromeda's.
I just hope you're able to actually do more stuff in the world in this game. The first one had a really big and cool looking world, but there wasn't a whole lot to do.
I do love a good Western and this looks like it could be awesome, there looks like some work still needs to be done as some facial animations look a little iffy but bar that bring it on.
@Kidfried "Rockstar don't release incomplete games"
Well then maybe you can answer the eternal question no else has yet been able to.
Wodl you consider The Witcher 3 to be a complete game at release? Got a lot of good reviews. Yet a year later they released "The Witcher 3: Complete Edition" containing all the DLC.
Not GotY or Directors Cut, COMPLETE.
So the question goes something like this - If the Witcher 3 and other games, have a "Complete" edition, their name not mine, which includes all of the DLC, THEN what would you you call the original game? You can't call it complete if the company that made the game is calling the game and all the DLC "Complete".
So, until companies stop releasing what THEY call "Complete" versions of their games, I'm gong to call the original game complete, b/c I'm not going to argue w/ a company over whether or not their game is complete, I leave it up to them to tell me when it is.
It was ok but would have been much better if gameplay was shown. I suppose this is just part of the tease and drip-feed up until launch...
Missed it yesterday so thanks for the poll.
RDR is the only R* game I like, because I love Westerns. The trailer captures that feeling. For gameplay we already know what to expect.
Meh, the facial animations are funny, the main protagonist has no redeeming qualities to him, although the level of detail in each shot was impressive. The smart money's on the story being a prequel, which is fun and all, but as the game will mostly be played online the single player largely forgotten anyway once RDR2Online launches.
I dislike prequels in general, but otherwise the trailer and story looked good.
@rjejr Can we try not to derail the comments section completely, please?
They could just show a cow pie covered in flies and id still buy the game day 1! Cant wait!!?
It's a great trailer, my hype level for this game has increased, but I hope the protag is not too unlikeable.
@rjejr The witcher 3 is a complete game. There's different between incomplete game like street fighter 5 and complete game that has dlc like the witcher 3 or horizon zero dawn.
@ShogunRok The first RDR game? Red Dead Revolver?? I enjoyed that but I do think Red Dead Redemption was overall better...
@BAMozzy Damn, you got me. Yeah, meant Red Dead Redemption. Need to be careful with that!
@ShogunRok Derail? What did I say that was derailing the thread? You did a poll asking about our thoughts on a trailer and our excitement for the game and I brought up what I think is a very good point, will there be ongoing DLC in this game - you know, the stuff you LOVE so much about FFXV - or will the game be one and done?
How is that derailing the thread? It's right down the middle of the tracks.
Now, if you want me to limit my images to 1 per comment b/c I was overwhelming the thread, well ok, I can see all of those images being an issue, but that's not the same as derailing the thread. I would know, I'm very good at that, but I didn't derail anything this time, just react to the trailer and your questions about my excitement level.
And speaking of, what happened to all my images anyway? I was pretty sure I had about 5 more in there when I left - I was in a rush, realized I was late for a Dr. appointment after I hit the reply button. Usually when Tasuki edits' a post he puts a little - "Please watch your language" - in there or something so we know a comment has been edited by someone other than it's author. It took me awhile to find all of those and put them in here. Is there something in "Community rules" about more than 1 image per comment I should know about? Or images of PC games? I don't think I used any Nintnedo images though you guys have kind of open Pandora's box on that issue lately. I could always make 1 comment per pic if that's the case. All I'm asking is that if your going to edit my posts please let me know and explain why, will keep me from making the same mistakes again in the future.
And if I've completely lost my mind and there weren't 5 other pics in that post when I left, well, then, um, you can disregard that last paragraph. Could have sworn I had a sentence in there about "other exceptions to the rule" or some such as well. Who knows.
@rjejr The poll is about a the story trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, asking people what they thought about it.
You asked about complete games and DLC, someone answered. Already a bit off topic, but fair enough.
Then you posted another massive comment about the same subject, complete with a string of pictures that took up half the comments section. If that's not derailing a thread — on an article about a trailer — then I'm not sure what is.
If you still have a problem with that, contact us.
@wiiware "There's different between incomplete game like street fighter 5 and complete game that has dlc like the witcher 3 or horizon zero dawn."
I agree, there are lots of levels of incomplete, there's no denying that. A game like ARMS or Splatoon has new DLC come out on an almost weekly basis. A game like SSB4 has DLC come out every few months for over a year. FFXV has ratcheted it up a whole other level w/ all the crazy stuff they're doing. Games like Witcher 3, Zelda BotW and Horizon:ZD may have been full game experiences, but I'm not sure that makes them complete. And if a company is going to come out w/ a final version of the game and call it "complete" well who are we to argue? The Lord of the Rings is made up of 3 books - Fellowship of the Ring, Two Towers, Return of the King - but I'm sure if you ask Toilkin you need all 3 books to make 1 complete Lord of the Rings. Same for Dante's Divine Comedy if you want to get a little more highbrow, though mostly people only know Inferno and probably can't even name the other 2, but I'd bet if you asked Dante, he'd say you need all 3.
So really, who's opinion should mean more when we are talking about "Complete" games, the people who make them and publish them, or the gamers who play them? The choice is yours, but I'm going w/ the devs, when they tell me it's complete, then it's complete. Unless it's the original SW film that Lucas ruined b/c we all know Han shot first and Jabba wasn't in it.
@ShogunRok "If you still have a problem with that, contact us."
I thought my reply WAS contacting you. Is there something in the community rules about embedded images? 1 per comment, 3 per thread, PS games only? Sorry, just feels like you deleted them on a whim. Deleting things on a whim w/ no rules or regulations to back you up looks wrong.
I read the rules and found these about images -
"Show some restraint on the amount of images you post. Posts or topics with many images are a strain on dial-up users, so please be courteous."
Says show restraint, I did stop at 5, that was my restraint.
Of course 2 bullet points down it says -
"When posting multiple large images in a post," - so it looks like we are allowed to post multiple images in a post. And I considered linking them rather them embedding them as I was driving to the Drs office, and I was thinking about doing it when I got back, but somebody deleted them and I don't feel like bothering to look them all up again, it isn't' that important.
What I didn't see mentioned at all in the Community Rules here -
https://www.pushsquare.com/rules
is any mention whatsoever about derailing a thread. Or even being off topic for that matter. I did find this -
"Whilst we grant members the freedom to talk about almost any topic there are still limits"
Apparently the "almost any topic" is up to your guys whim at any given moment.
Like I said before, if I broke a rule, show me the rule. Copy and paste, simple. I like to think I'm not too old to learn from my mistakes, But you guys and your - "We're not in a good mood today so get rid of this and this and this at our whim." is getting kind of old.
@rjejr Look, your comment was completely off topic, and now we're even more off topic. It's not a hard concept to grasp in all honesty. You posted several large pictures which have nothing to do with the topic at hand, and I deleted them to make the comments section look more reasonable and to keep things on track.
If you have a specific problem with how we run things, you should contact us directly - not in a comments section of an article.
That's all there is to say.
... with that all said now, I'm personally more excited after seeing the trailer. The original was fantastic and "complete" even without the additional DLC.
I really liked what I saw from the trailer but I don't think the majority of us are going to prefer this Arthur Morgan fella to the brilliant John Marston though. As long as the story campaign is as great as RD: Redemption then I think we'll get on with Morgan just fine.
I'm hoping with the massive success of GTA Online that Rockstar don't completely favour a RDRII: Online over the Campaign and any DLC that it could bring to the story.
Also due to the lack of enhancement from GTA V on the Pro and X, I hope we see this enhanced on those beefed up consoles.
Until I get to play it for my self i'll reserve my final conclusions. YouTube videos are too compressed to give any real indication of visual fidelity and trailers can't inform you if the gameplay is fun or rewarding to a persons specific taste, only playing the game personally can give you that information. Very interested in seeing how this game performs technically and how alive and atmospheric the world feels.
@ShogunRok Need a option off 'I don't watch trailers, because I don't like spoiling myself.'
If I see something in a trailer, I'll always be on the look out for it in the game. I rather go in blind.
Make no mistake, I'm beyond excited. Wish it was out this year.
Pretty good trailer, but I didn't like the first game so I will have to see more to even consider it.
I was pleased to see more of the game world and pleased with the variety this game world appears to offer.
I was happy to see the graphics display rich colors and good draw distance. Also glad at what i did not see like bloom, haze, god rays all over the place, no oddball depth of field image ruining , and no noticeable motion freaking blur.
Upon seeing the gator i broke into my happy dance.
@kyleforrester87 Agreed, Marston is the man. He's got to feature heavily, surely? This could be the guy tasked with going after him when he goes rogue.
I thought the trailer looked okay. The world looks really well realised but I have to say, the character graphics, in particular the facial animations looked quite weak compared to some of the recent titles that have released.
My biggest concern is that if that was the character you will play as, he seems like a complete anus and I worry that I won't like him....I always like to play a paragon kind of role.
