Earlier in the week, Bandai Namco teased a new project headed by Japanese developer Dimps. The teaser trailer showed a dusty, almost post-apocalyptic world. Turns out that it was actually for the next Sword Art Online game, which, to be totally honest, isn't exactly the most exciting outcome.
Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet will take place in that other MMO that protagonist Kirito and his friends sign up for. You know, the one which trades swords in for guns and lightsabers, and Kirito plays as a female avatar. Or something. Look, we didn't bother watching that series, okay?
Apparently, it's going to be a third-person shooter RPG, and it's due out worldwide in early 2018. Sound good to you? Aim down the barrel in the comments section below.

I always seem to be close to buying one of the Sword Art games just because the games look like a lot of fun in the anime. Loved the setting for the Gun MMO they joined...but none of the SAO games have looked fun enough to buy yet. We'll see I guess, will keep a casual eye on it.
Yay...
Was hoping the next SAO would actually be in you know, virtual reality. Pretty disappointed. Pass.
actually a 3rd person shooter RPG could be fun as long as they drop all the harem crap the games have because the series was never about that
laff
second post: looks like it's being done by Dimps and they are pretty good at anime based games and it looks like it has proper MMO components too so it's actually looking promising
Added the trailer.
Well, there are 3 things that I'm liking about this game:
1)It won't be made by Artdinks nor Aquaria, and instead by Dimps (Freedom Wars team) meaning that it won't be a monotonous button smasher or an RPG with ridiculous romance.
2)It will be a multiplatform game, meaning that they don't need to hold it back for a Vita port.
3)You will probably won't play as Kirito.
@SoulsBourne128 i hope we don't play as Kirito, i know he is the main character of SAO but i think it would be better if he was a NPC who helped you out from time to time
@FullbringIchigo @SoulsBourne128 Totally agree on the Kirito thing. It's so weird that games like Hollow Realization let you make your own character only to have you referred to as Kirito throughout the entire story. Would be way more interesting to have our own character join in on these virtual worlds with the existing cast.
I really, really hate Sword Art Online like all smart people do , but I do really like Dimps. They're a great developer, and needless to say a massive improvement over whatever internal Bandai team usually makes SAO games. I can look at this as basically just an anime 3rd person shooter which... I mean, Dimps co-developed Freedom Wars with SHIFT, didn't they? Is this the closest the PS4 will get to Freedom Wars since Sony doesn't seem to want to continue that IP (I guess it is pretty redundant with God Eater out there, but still...)
I wanna put this on my radar just because of Dimps and the Freedom Wars experience they're building on, not because of the dumb license attached to it.
I never get excited when they announce anything. It's always the samething...some niche Japanese game. There a one trick pony
@TruthfulVoice Well they wont continue that IP because no one bought it. They made it retail and nobody bought it either yeah what did expect what would happen. Im still hoping for a soul sacrifice game for PS4.
@FullbringIchigo Drop the main character and go with a custom character with a own story would be nice to.
