PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds PS4 PlayStation 4 1

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will come to the PlayStation 4 – or will it? If it will, then Microsoft doesn’t want you to think it will: the Redmond manufacturer announced that it will be publishing the console version of the game exclusively on the Xbox One this holiday, though it’s unclear if its ties to the platform are timed.

That was certainly the case back at E3 2017, as Microsoft leaned on its Game Preview initiative to flaunt “launch” exclusivity. The language is similar a couple of months later, although developer BlueHole notes that it’s working with the platform holder to get the console version out sooner. Where does this leave the PS4 version?

Well, it’s important to remember that we’ve been here before: Rise of the Tomb Raider was published by Microsoft and still launched on the PS4 a year later. More importantly, the firm used very specific language regarding that relationship, too. Our guess? This is an Xbox One “exclusive” while it remains in Early Access, and then it will launch elsewhere.

Of course, we will try to get some concrete clarification, but you know how these things go – it’s what isn’t said that you really need to be paying attention to.
