First there were the Father's Day ads in Spain, and now Kratos' new voice actor has listed God of War for 2017 release. Obviously this shouldn't be taken as gospel, but Christopher Judge's Twitter profile does allude to the game coming this year, and there must be some reason he believes that to be the case.
Last year, developer Sony Santa Monica revealed that the PlayStation 4 reboot is playable from start-to-finish, though presumably not in a fully polished state. Personally we're still not expecting this one until 2018, but it would be gigantic for the PS4 if the game were to drop in a matter of months.

One heck of a heavy hitter if it is coming this year.
So.....rumor?
@RedMageLanakyn Yes, and it's tagged as such.
@get2sammyb Oh, i see the tag now at the top, in the article. The front page shows it as "news"
Would be nice. It'd add another feather to 2017's hat of great games.
Crazy if this game released at the end of the year.
@get2sammyb "Yes, and it's tagged as such."
It took me almost as long to find that "Rumours" tag as it did for me to find where in his Twitter feed he posted 2017.
In case anybody else is looking for him tweeting about it, what with this being twitter and all, he didn't, it's just listed as 2017 under his photo.
KRATOS - GOD OF WAR (2017)
Don't see why this can't be 2017, late 2017, as it was announced last year. Its Kratos, he isn't all that complicated, "Hulk smash". And if it's a single player game only rather than the multiplayer attempt the long since forgotten and discredited "Awakenings" was, well less for them to do.
Sure, 2017 is already a crazy good year for games, but if this isn't Sony's big holiday exclusive game, than what is? Dreams? Horizon can't carry a console for 9 months, and most other games are multiplats - Destiny 2, RDR2, SWB2. Despite Spiderman's household name appeal I still think Kratos is a better symbol for Sony's console. Maybe we can get Spidey in September, Kratos in Nov?
Of course the liklihood of it being announced for 2017 and then delayed into 2018 isn't out of the realm of possibility either. Maybe they told him it was "planned" for 2017 but he thought that was unnecessary for a Twitter description.
I'm willing to go on record that somebody somewhere involved with this game thought it was a 2017 "planned" release when they showed it last year. Not 100% a given, but 2017 was the "plan" or expectation. I'm ok w/ a voice actor putting it as "2017" on his twitter page if that's what he was told.
Game engine and voice acting looked and sounded really good 9 months ago at E3.

This year still has another 9 months to go, though realistically 8 months to have it out before Black Friday. That's 17 months since this 9 minute game play was shown. I'm sure SSM can do a lot in 17 months considering what they already had back then.
God of war oh yeah 2017 son word up .my favorite PlayStation franchises ever
if it's this year i'm betting xmas time
would be a fantastic game for the holiday season
At least if this is true the "best year in gaming history" question is resolved.....
@rjejr I was referring to the front page. I don't really pay attention to the tags within the article, but i could imagine some people giving Sammy guff calling this "news" and not "rumour". Was just trying to save him headaches from griefers
Colour me surprised if true but 2018 more likely.
I still think it'll be a 2018 release but at the same time, MS has new hardware, Nintendo has Super Mario Odyssey and possibly Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for its new piece of hardware that is flying off shelves. Sony should counter with something, and God of War is one heck of a counter punch.
@RedMageLanakyn "Was just trying to save him headaches from griefers"
Well nobody gives him more grief than me. I figure this is his job, our entertainment, so I hold him to a higher standard.
And besides, the title is completely fine as it is, there's nothing "rumour" in the title, it's about what Kratos voice actor thinks, not when the game is actually coming out. Unless you convinced him to change it since this morning, that's possible, I didn't memorize what it was before. But as it is now, that's not a rumour, that's what an actor thinks.
Kratos' New Voice Actor Thinks God of War's Coming to PS4 in 2017
@rjejr Fair enough, that does make sense. I guess it truly can fall under both categories!
I wasn't counting you as a griefer either, it's always fun to point out tiny errors and throw in a good natured ribbing in the process
@RedMageLanakyn I take pride in my griefing, keeps sammy & co. from slacking off. I'm still waiting for them to put a price in the "GAME INFO" box next to the release date. This game doesn't need it, $60 is a given, but a game like Shiness is $29.99, there's a lot of variation in digital games. And Yooka-Laylee is $40 download or digital. $60 vs $40 matters to some people. They have plenty of space to fit in that big "Where to buy" button so they can make a few cents on the sale, but they can't tell us how much it is first before we buy it? That doesn't seem right.
@TrueAssassin86x
Nah, Sony was slow to start this gen, no asking for it to slow down now! Let all the good games hit the market, if you have to skip out on one or two early on, they'll still be there later.
@rjejr Yeah, that is kinda weird. Maybe has something to do with the tiny fluctuations that happen on sites like Amazon, and it would be a pain to constantly update it?
@rjejr Sony don't really need a big fall game, they haven't for the last few years. They still have Uncharted Lost Legacy and Gran Turismo Sport coming though. Bundles and deals on the Pro with Destiny 2, Red Dead and Battlefront 2 will probably be enough to keep it competitive alongside Scorpio. That's even if Scorpio has any kind of momentum after a couple of months.
Nope. March 2018. Been calling this since it was announced. Every God of War has released in March, and I don't expect this to be very different.
Every God of War game (except Ghost of Sparta), launched in the month of March. Maybe they follow this trend and launch in March 2018.
@adf86 "Sony don't really need a big fall game,"
Well, they may not need one, but I doubt they would be opposed to having one. I think both Uncharted 4 and Horizon were supposed to be big holiday games but they both got delayed. Which are 2 reasons why Sony has been silent on release dates recently.
And don't forget Switch. It may not get any relevant 3rd party support, but a new 3D Mario game and Zelda and MK8D and who knows maybe even a port of Super Smash Bros 4 could get them some interest this holiday. So a big "exclusive" title wouldn't hurt.
And honestly, from my own point of view that nobody cares about, if you are showing off a 9 minute game play of a game at E3 in any given year, it really SHOULD be out the next calendar year. I don't like seeing games in 2014 that don't come out until 2017. Any new game shown in playable form - not just a slideshow or 30 second tease - should be out in 18 months or less.
@rjejr Sony doesn't do Xmas holiday which is a very smart move from both a gamers & business point of view, looked what happened to games like Titanfall2, Dishonored 2, Watch Dogs 2 etc. The holiday season is packed with games where as after Xmas there is hardly any new releases, releases then gives us new games to play but also there is more of a chance of the game selling well also.
I would imagine GOW releasing a month or two after Xmas.
As much as I expect this as early 2018, late 2017 would be an awesome surprise.
I reckon this will be coming out at the end of the year. And unless they've got a big megaton announcement, I'd wager it'll be their closer at E3 with a specific release date.
@rjejr In an ideal world yes, when a game is shown then it should be out within 18 months but I'm always cautious about such things because as consumers we shouldn't be pressuring developers and publishers to release games at the earliest possible time because that's what leads to the release now patch later mentality. While most of that is the fault of publishers trying to tick some quota, I don't think we help ourselves when shows like E3 we see game X and we (including the media) say "we've seen enough of it now, just give us a launch date"!
As for the fall games, yes it would not harm Sony at all to have one and GoW is one of the few franchises that can survive the competition in those months but like Microsoft found out, putting your biggest names out in the fall period doesn't guarantee blockbuster numbers anymore. That time is reserved for "casual audience" who will only buy FIFA/Madden, CoD etc a year.
@adf86 "pressuring developers and publishers to release games"
I've always had the opposite philosophy, it's not about "rushing" games, it's about teaching developers to not show us games, thus getting our hopes up, until they can reasonably give us a date. Nintnedo showing Zelda at E3 2014, saying it was due out in 2015, saying again it was due out in 2015 at the 2014 GA in Dec, saying in 2015 it was due out in 2016. Sure, it's a great GoaT and selling well, but it was an annoying wait. An annoying wait watching them gut out everything that made it a Wii U game. I'm not buying it now, maybe later.
So for me it isn't about "rushing" a game's development, it should be about dev's not announcing a game, and certainly not a date, until they know they can get it out "soonish". GoW had 10 full minutes of really good looking gameplay last year, it wasn't just a 2 minute CGI trailer like Blizzard is famous for. If they are going to shwo that much actual gmaeplay at E3 I would hope the game is coming out within the next 18 months, otherwise dont' show that much, just put up a title screen adn say, "Yes, we are working on another GoW game, we have nothing else too announce now, but dont' expect it any time soon."
Now Spiderman, that was shown at E3 2016 as well, but that was a 90 second trailer that looked like mostly cut scenes. I wasn't expecting that one any time soon. Spiderman's moveset - swinging, jumping, webbing - seems a lot more complicated to program than Kratos.

@banacheck "Sony doesn't do Xmas holiday"
I can see them making an exception this year too ward off Scorpio. Last year they had both PSVR and Pro hardware to sell alongside the Slim against the X1 and, well that was about it. This year, they have to fend off both Scorpio and the Switch. GoW may not sell as well during the holiday as it would in Feb or March, but it gives Sony a AAA exclusive to roar about during the holiday season. I think this is an important holiday season to differentiate themselves, and Kratos does that.
