Retailers are readying themselves for the reveal of the next Call of Duty game – well, that's if a tweet by journalist Jim Sterling is to be believed. The post shows a GameStop planning document, with "Call of Duty Reaveal [sic]" listed as a banner that's set to be erected starting 3rd May. It's safe to assume that this title will get a full blowout during Sony's E3 press conference in June, but Activision usually puts a teaser out ahead of time.
So, what do we know about the next Call of Duty game? First and foremost, it's in development at Infinity Ward, with speculation suggesting that it may go full-on sci-fi and whisk you away into outer-space. There was also a rumour that it will be subtitled Bloodlines, but the scent's gone cold on that front lately. If stores are prepping banners, though, we should start to hear more soon. Watch this space.

Not the biggest COD fan it sucks me in every year then I lose interest quickly. But if this could be like James Bond Moonraker then it could be fun.
I trust Gamestop about as far as I can throw them.
Its a year ago that BO3 was first revealed and therefore would expect some announcement regarding the next instalment in the biggest franchise in gaming. If memory serves me correctly, May is the traditional reveal month for CoD.
As someone with every CoD since CoD4, with all the DLC Map Packs (apart from W@W), I am looking forward to seeing what Infinity Ward will bring. I know Ghosts came in for a lot of criticism but I enjoyed its campaign and thought the 'Extinction' mode was a lot of fun too -not quite as good as Treyarchs Zombies but still a lot of fun. Its MP was very much 'MW4' in essence. It took the principals from that and 'updated' them, incorporating some features from the campaign to tie it in. Not all worked as well as expected - things like the UAV being a ground based scorestreak and Riley was a bit annoying - unless it was yours... Maps got a lot of criticism too - being to big but compared to some previous IW games, I didn't think it was too bad. I know Stonehaven was big and Seige had a lot of wasted areas but IW CoD games are full of 'big' maps - Its easier to list the small maps!!. They addressed this with some of the best Maps in CoD history with the DLC - Maps like Fog for example. I enjoyed the 'dynamic' map elements but wish they had made more of this - maybe they were limited by old (last-gen) hardware. The lean mechanic was a bit off for the CoD formula too but overall I thought IW made a good, solid game - particularly after the mess that was MW3 and that IW had 2yrs to make Ghosts for many different platforms and only received next gen Dev Kits a few months before release.
I would have liked to see how the campaign followed on after the 'twist' at the end of Ghosts and hope to see Extinction return too. I am interested to see how IW go about the MP, following on from BO3's movement. I couldn't care less about the 'setting' as that is not important. I think a historic setting limits creativity and innovation. You can't exactly have changes to movement mechanics, innovative weapons, scorestreaks etc if you are restricted by historical accuracy. Going back to this era, I think, would be a step back for the franchise - something that is designed to be fast paced and arcade style fun. I hope that if it is set in space, we don't have 'flow' issues like AW had!
I like advanced warfare and black ops 3, I hope the new game has good single player campaign too.
:/ it hasn't been two years even.... It's been about 1 year. I'd black ops 5 gonna be out by fall 2016? Seriously guys chill with all the quick releases.
I'm still loving bo3 so much it's so fast a fluid, after ghost which I enjoyed least of all the cod games by quite a large margin I may try overwatch or titanfall 2, for my go to multiplayer next year
I used to buy the Cod games religiously but Call of Duty Ghosts was the last in the series I played.I would rather the series go back to WW 1 or WW 2 not this futuristic stuff..and especially not in space! We going to swap guns for light sabers next?
@Alpha Its been nearly 3yrs since Infinity Wards last game!!
@BAMozzy I'm talking about their publisher, Activision. I prefer infinity wards games to be honest. BO2 though was pretty good. And haven't played Bo 1 to give it any judging. But modern warfare is my all time favorite call of duty trilogy.
@Alpha Each developer has a different approach to the CoD franchise and a different feel to the games too. Whilst there is a lot of similarities at a basic level - ie shooting, guns, perks, killstreaks, game-modes etc, the differences are noticeable too. I know they 'borrow' from each other - if something is 'popular' and/or works well. BO3 has 'uplink' because it was 'popular' in AW but Treyarch weren't going to add it initially.
IW were of the course the 'Original' developer and created the Modern Warfare series but 3 was a broken mess - mainly because IW went through a major crisis and lost a lot of the development team. It required the help of many studio's just to get the game out on time. Its why I consider it one of the worst games in the franchise. Treyarch have become synonymous with being a lot more 'experimental' in its games - most notably the Campaign - compared to IW's more straight forward approach. IW games though have always been 'quicker' on its MP, movement seems faster, TTK a bit faster etc. even Hit Detection is usually a bit better (counting out MW3 because that was poor - partly because of the Lag/Host compensation)
This leads of course to a 'division' among CoD fans. Now that Treyarch have had an established team that have made many games together, Some think they are the best - Zombies of course has helped and the 'decline' of IW. The fact that people though can 'pick' a favourite - often their first experience, shows that each, despite the similarities, is a 'different' game.
EA tried to do something similar to Activision and release a FPS game every year too. Instead of giving them a 'franchise' name (like CoD), they used 2 names they already had - Battlefield (odd years like 2011, 2013) and Medal of Honour (even years 2010, 2012). However the last one (Warfighter) didn't do that well and so the series was taken out of rotation indefinitely. BF: Hardline was meant to fill that 'gap' on 2014 but slipped to 2015 and with Dice working on SW:BF for 2016, their follow up to BF4 is expected in 2017. Point I am making is that Activision have a team of now 3 developers, all working independently to produce their own 'CoD' game. All CoD means is that it will be a fast paced, arcade style, military shooter but that doesn't mean 'each' game is the same. BO3 is very different to AW, which is different from Ghosts, and was very different to BO2 etc etc. You can see more of pattern between each developers games (now every 3yrs) than you can between each years offerings.
@BAMozzy wow that's a lot of info. Good thing I love learning lol. But thing is I lost internet soon after the first modern warfare and halo 3 released due to us moving to an area with dial up at the time, and so I mostly played mw2 and mw3 for the campaign. And yes I don't like MP for mw3 only the story and spec ops lol. Mw2 and mw3 MP consisted of 4 local people on 1 30in HDTV with a line issue lol. So I never got to play the fabled mw2 online. I remember getting my cell and trying mw3 after bo2 got hacked for a few weeks and I couldn't play it. Was awful. Just figured I moved on to the newer system. Note I know why lol. Here's hoping infinity warfare is the new best thing. I don't like black ops experimental stuff but it's something. Wish they would release a multiplayer only version on consoles like killzone 3 on psn or bo3 on PC.
@gingerfrog never played overwatch, but I'd recommend titanfall 2 since the first was amazing. Except it was limited to online only, no campaign, and exclusive to pc and Xbox systems. Titanfall 2 will have a campaign, be multiplatform and hopefully allow offline play.
