Unlike its predecessor, Titanfall 2 will feature a single player campaign. That's according to an article penned by a Forbes contributor, who spoke with lead writer Jesse Stern. If accurate, the plot promises a modern re-imagining of the American Revolution and the American Civil War in space. "What inspires us is the junction of technological advancement with the inevitability of conflict and war and what the next war might look like," he said.
Apparently you can expect scenes whereby "science meets magic", but despite this, the game will be grounded by a "dirty, human world". Allegedly, work only started on the sequel in late 2014, so it's got its work cut out if it intends to hit EA's expected March 2017 launch date. It's got its work cut out anyway, though: Stern mentions that developer Respawn Entertainment's also collaborating with Lionsgate TV on a television series, but does express reservations as to whether the project will be too expensive to get off the ground.
Either way, it's nice to know that a single player campaign is in the works – especially seeing as the series is about to take its bow on the PlayStation 4 for the first time. Has this tidbit increased your interest in the sci-fi sequel? Drop a titan in the comments section below.

Good, the game might last longer than 6 months this time then
@FullbringIchigo ?
I had no problems finding a game...
I tried it on PC months ago but I didn't really see anything that stood out as something great, Black Ops 3 is way better in my opinion though it's kinda a disappointing game also. Still miles better than AW which I think is worse than Ghost. AW was LAG 24/7 for me but Black Ops 3 lags less for whatever reason, even Ghost lags less than AW.
Much more interested in picking this up straight away now. Not fond of paying full price for a multiplayer-only game.
"..re-imagining of the American Revolution and the American Civil War.."
That sounds.. boring. Basically copying the idea for Wolfenstein: The New Order then, but with a different war. Sounds like they lack for new ideas, I guess it could be fun but it's a shame they didn't try and be more original.
@ferrarimanf355 i grabbed it on pc and was alot of fun... at first but the hacking was huge is on pc. And after unlocking everything inside a week. Me and several other people lost intest in it. So yeah 6 months is fair..
I just hope they learn from there mistakes this go around. Add alot more guns and gear to unlock. And single player better be amazing.
@LieutenantFatman Isn't The New Order alternate history World War 2?
@get2sammyb That's right yes, I thought they did a great job with it. Also some other parallels between the games as that also had mechs in it.
Its certainly something I think the game needs but I still have reservations over the MP - the part of the game that is likely to get played the most and last the longest. A campaign may entice a wider audience - those not interested in online - and opening it up to more formats too is obviously going to help sales etc but having played the game on the xbox, It needs to have a lot more variation than the first as well as a some tweaks to its format.
@get2sammyb @LieutenantFatman
Sounds good to me, I think your all a bit senseitive about the inevitable mecha George Washington stomping on some dirty red coats. To be honest though, it beats that near-future setting which has been shoved down our throughts during the last few years.
Single player campaign? Here is my money.
@ferrarimanf355 oh i'm not saying you can't find a game but it took less than a year for a majority of the players to move on to something else because the game had no real staying power
it was the same few mechs in the same few maps in the same few game modes
there wasn't enough variety in what it offered, still it was the first attempt and at it's core it was fun so here's hoping the second can do better
If 2015 was the year of the multiplayer only game 2016 is the year of the "of course there is a single player story mode".
Gets me more interested but I still need to know more before I consider a purchase.
I got enough of Titanfall during the PC beta.
I'm glad to hear the news, but I do hope that the full campaign is also playable co op. Having a full campaign is great, but nowadays I find myself focusing a lot on games that have a full co op campaign. To be honest that wasn't the primary gripe I had with titanfall. The weird resolution have me headaches after 1-2 matches, and I found it strange that respawn put so little unlocks in the multiplayer. That really killed its replay value for me. The controls, map design, gameplay were what made the game stand on its on, but it was the lack of any real diversity that made it a 30-50hr game instead of a true cod competitor that it could have been.
it's great news, Titanfall has the best shooter mechanics in this gen. way better than COD series. gameplay is faaast and controls are superb and with a good campaign it will go boom!
Lionsgate TV series, at early stage game development? That sounds like marketing/stock-holder nonsense, that will stifle any creativity. American Revolution meets American Civil War, meets magic, meets science, meets futuristic space, meets grounded human world, yet your in "space" piloting huge mechs. How will all of these contradictions come together?
Single player campaign. The single reason I skipped Titanfall on X1, even at the $5 orange clearance pricetag. No single player campaign, no buy, simple as that.
Now, if Titanfall 2 does indeed have a single player campaign (and doesn't require an online connection... Eh ehm, I'm looking at you Destiny) then I'm all in.
Just yesterday I was wondering if anyone was still playing the first game, I imagine the free maps must have helped with player counts at least in the short term.
The first game wasn't good, kinda surprised is getting a sequel.
If its a half decent campaign then yeah, I'll bite.
I'd honestly prefer it if it were based on a mecha anime like Gundam or TTGL, but I'm not really a fan of setpiece-filled super-scripted single player campaigns anyway
Err.....has this even been comfirmed for PS4?
Really couldn't care less for this...
Original game was awful, don't care.
I now have more than zero interest in this franchise as it has a SP campaign...
