Greatness Awaits PS4 PlayStation 4 1

Ratchet & Clank's long awaited PlayStation 4 debut was pushed into 2016 overnight, where it'll join fellow exclusive Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Bloodborne proved earlier in the year that Sony's still got a knack [Pun unintended – Ed] for putting out quality software, but with very few other first-party titles in the platform holder's pipeline, many are pondering whether it's going to deliver anything of note this holiday.

"I won't go into any detail now," SCEUK boss Fergal Gara told MCV. "There is plenty for gamers to get excited about already, such as Tearaway Unfolded and No Man's Sky. That's just the start of what's on the table right now. So, I don't have any concerns that we will have a lack of strong software for PS4 this peak."

Quizzed on why so many games are getting delayed, Gara said that it's likely due to studios getting to grips with the new hardware. "My sense is that the new platforms have opened up the ambitions of developers and the capabilities of what they can achieve," the affable executive pondered. "What has then happened since has been a bit of rushing to market and a couple of not perfect launches. That's perhaps driven some conservatism."

He concluded: "The good news is that the ability to stick to time lines will improve as people get experience of the hardware under their belts. I have been hearing stories from around the industry that give me assurance that developers have got a better grasp on things, so we will be in increasingly good shape."

To be honest, we reckon that it's too early to be having conversations like this. While we have our own reservations about Sony's big E3 showing next month – we'll discuss that in more detail in a future article – we don't think that it's right to be writing off the manufacturer's entire lineup until we've seen its full hand. Remember, the organisation still has several studios openly working on projects that we haven't even seen yet. It's going to be fine.
