Sony's getting set to announce a new online gaming initiative in Italy, as local press have been invited to an event scheduled to take place on 13th May. While the possibilities seem practically endless, our guess is that it'll be expanding the eSports-inspired PlayStation League to other European nations.
Regular readers will recall the tournament being announced late last year in Spain, where Italia was listed as one of the countries that would join the party soon after. Essentially, this allows you to compete in various gaming competitions powered by the PlayStation 4, with much of the legwork conducted by the PlayStation Network.
As far as we can tell, this is a regional thing – we certainly haven't heard about any impending press events here in the UK – so it's probably not worth getting overly excited about. Assuming that the PlayStation League takes off in these initial European territories, though, expect it to be rolled out globally in time.
