"We're sick of new titles on the PlayStation 4!" the passionate gaming masses shout as they march through the village square. "We want more last-gen re-releases!" Luckily for this ill-conceived cliché, the Australian ratings board may have just accidentally revealed that Borderlands will be getting a next-gen remaster.
Obviously, classification board listings are always to be taken with a grain of salt, but this one does seem to reside firmly within the realm of possibility. What's more, the game's original Aussie rating was MA15+, and this new version seems to carry the same certificate, lending it more plausibility.
Do you think that there's something in this rumour, or is it just a load of claptrap? Would you play a remastered version of Borderlands? Take a step over the borderline in the comments section below.

Hmmm I think i am starting to get a bit tired of the remasters.
We already have the Pre-Sequel and Tales From to give us our Borderlands fix until the third game arrives. No need to oversell the series. You really wanna plug the gap before Borderlands 3? Put the Pre-Sequel on PS4/Xbox One like we all know you eventually will.
Ok, this is becoming annoying, in a little while they will re-release all PS3 games and start release the PS2 library again.
Why not? I've played these before several times each and I'd love to play them again on the PS4, if you are tired of re-release don't buy them, for me- I'm excited to play these great games again!
I could complain about remasters, but then that'd be a little silly seen as the German USK rating board leaked a possible Hyperdimension Neptunia Hypercollection for Ps4 which obviously has one intrigued
Although I wouldn't say this Borderlands malarkey would be a remaster, more of a port. Lets face it, they'll just port the PC versions over to Ps4. It won't have the work put in like TLoU & Metro Redux in rejigging code or remastering older games with new engines.
@rastamadeus I agree with you on that. There's already enough Borderlands content out there that has seen a far more recent release that Ps4 owners would appreciate over porting 1 & 2. 2K are probably hoping to make a swift buck on the port before bringing Pre-Sequel and Tales From over to Ps4 to make a little more wonga.
I fully believe this is going to happen, but I just don't quite see the point. TLoU made sense as it was new to those transferring over from Xbox, Metro Redux was fine as the first one never released on PlayStation, and GTA V had so much added to it that that kind of made up for it. Borderlands was already released across every console imaginable, so unless they are planning on adding some real game changers in there, I just don't really get where the market for it is?
If they would release a borderlands remastered (collection) for ps4 I would be extremely happy.
I'll pass on a Borderlands remaster thank you. I still own Borderlands 1 & 2 for PS3 as they aren't worth trading in since they're worth very little. I'll just wait for Borderlands 3.
I can see them doing it if its a complete collection, but not any 1 game. PS3 had a lot of PS2 collections but very single games. None that I can think of actually, DmC and Tomb Raider were new games, reboots, not remasters or ports.
If I had to pick any remaster I want a Fallout remaster. Give me Fallout 3 and New Vegas together on PS4 and I'm set. And add online co-op while your at it. Thanks
I'll just wait for 3.
@Savino This is why when I get a PS4, I'm limiting the amount of remasters I get to Last of Us and GTA5. It's getting close to an overload at this point, and like many I plan on getting a next gen machine for new games. Remasters aren't bad, but they shouldn't be overdone.
I might pick it up a year or two after it releases when it's under $20. I wouldn't pay full price.
@McSterls @Savino Surely there is no need for PS Now then? "Hey, pay a monthly amount to download old games! Oh, here's some remasters you suckers will pay full price for while already giving us a monthly fee! Mwuhahahaha..."
I fail to see the reason for irritation.
The PS4 versions are obviously PC ports since the architecture is so similar - it's not like the Devs are wasting serious resources on these editions. Plus, most third-party titles on the PS3 are ugly as f*&k when compared with the PC versions - not to mention filled with frame-rate chops, screen tearings and poor colors. No seriously, play Dead Island on the PS3 and tell me you wouldn't mind a PS4 version which would look like the PC's.
And in the end, if you don't want a PS4 port, don't buy it. Frankly, I would be hyped silly if rocksteady would release a Batman-HD Arkham trilogy for the PS4.
Will they add more epic maymays?
Whenever I upgrade my PC, I love booting up old games and seeing how well I can get them to run. Too bad you can't do the same with console.
Too. Many. Remasters.
@Nickolaidas "hyped silly" to play games only a few years old just because they are slightly prettier and adding absolutely nothing to the games? The irritation is that the machine is in danger of becoming full of any old crap put on with a 'remastered' tag for gullible people to buy again and again just so they can make a quick few quid. As I said above what is the point of PS Now? Just remaster every single PlayStation game from the last twenty years so the mindless hordes can buy every game again. Then do the same on PS5...
@rastamadeus "Slightly prettier"? Maybe if you're playing on a 17" TV, but on a 42" LCD/Plasma screen, most third party PS3 games look like utter turds thanks to the horrible aliasing issues. If the PS4 library ends up being 3000 games, with 800 of them being remasters, I fail to see the problem.
Gullible people, mindless hordes? Am I part of a mindless horde because I want my favourite games in the best visual shape they can be? It's not like I'll buy every freakin' re-master, I'll only buy those of my favourite games last gen. And since I consider 1080p/60fps the pinnacle of visual fidelity on consoles, I won't be buying again say, a PS4 version of God of War I-II and the PSP titles. Those are already looking as the best they can be on the PS3 and that's that. But games like Dead Island, a freakin' graphical mess on the PS3 would be a welcome sight to be remastered on the PS4. And if people don't like it, they shouldn't buy it. I hate the NBA/FIFA2K games but I do not protest or bitch about them everytime a new one is released. If people enjoy a particular gaming trend, who are we to deny them, especially when it doesn't hurt us one bit?
PS4 owners will get their PS4-only games. I simply do not understand why consumers are in such a hurry to condemn both the PS4 and X1 of not having games when they're only one year old. Games begin to come by the dozens after 2.5-3 years of release. The remasters have nothing to do with it!
Please watch the language -Tasuki-
I for one really up for remakes of last gen games. But "remakes" not "remasters". Today we have access to great engines like Frostbite. I would jump up and down from happiness if they remaked Mass Effect and Dragon Age in Frostbite engine. Even thinkng about it gets me sooo exited. I mean games like these had great context but lacked the technical and graphical detail to give it justice. Like Baldur's Gate, old Elder Scroll games like Morrowind and Oblivion. Any game that deserves it, any game that can benefit from more detail.
@Cowboysfan-22 ohh man that would be a dream come true. Damn it, I would even go for a simple Hd remaster just for trophies...
Yes yes and yes!!! This would Hurt Destiny!! Yay!!!
Anyone that thinks that 2014 was the only year for remasters for PS4 is wrong.
@Xalbador40
Mass Effect & Oblivion were just fine on previous gen consoles. They were not held back by their visuals & were legendary games.
@Godsire- Of course they were. But for example in Oblivion. You come to a point where you gather soldiers from each major city and fight of againts demons coming out of the Oblivion gate. There are only like one or two soldiers from each city and you kind a wonder "is this it?" Like there is a thing here if left unchecked could destroy everything but they only send two soldiers?. Epicness of the moment just vanishes. Or the beginnning of the game where you find a city burning, ravaged by demons. Who is there to fight? Just a handle of soldiers. No cizitens no corpses or anyrhing. Dont get me wrong I am not judging the devs. They have done more than even what was possiable at the time. But what I am saying that is it so much to ask from them to "remaster" what was already "legendary", now with the newest tools of today?
