You all know how Destiny looks on the PlayStation 4 by now thanks to its alpha, beta, and the hefty amount of trailers that we've posted here at Push Square, but how does it fare on a smaller screen?
If that particular question's been floating around in your head, then you'll be pleased to know that Sony has the answer thanks to a neat little video guide that it's put together. The trailer shows off how the sci-fi shooter runs via remote play using the Vita, and needless to say, it all looks rather smooth. Are you a fan of remote play, or do you hardly make use of it? Gun down the enemies of the galaxy while on the move in the comments section below.

I only used Remote Play for Second Son, the Destiny Beta and Knack when I got my PS4 a month ago and it really sucked. It kept lagging and disconnecting me from the games multiple times over. From that point, I stopped using it.
@Sadodi what really p*sses me off is that if I lock the vita screen it automatically disconnects... Wtf is that all about.
It's really dependent on having an impeccable wifi connection. It's neat, and I think I completed most of Stick it to the Man when I was on the can, but, and it pains me to say this, when you compare it to the Wii U's gamepad functionality it's not in the same league.
@RawShark Why is that?
I haven't had any issues with remote play. It seems to run flawless for me. If you are having issues I would double check your connections and settings. BTW, I have my PS4 connected through LAN and not Wi-Fi. With all that being said, I doubt I will use remote play for multiplayer.
Iv had no problems with remote play. I often use the vita as a controller and watch the tv screen.
@agus_susanto78 Well for one, the buttons are hampered by lack of a 2nd set of shoulder buttons. Second - he's right. The connectivity is just not all there - I mean, it's the difference between a system designed to play without the tv and one that is able to be used as such. But I don't think anyone should ever expect it to reasonably match the Wii U in that area.
Looks quite smooth on the vita
@ztpayne7 agreed but well in theory that's not what the vita was designed for it is its own console, remote play is just a feature
@danny2kd Exactly. I mean, I love it that the Vita can do remote play. But you won't see me arguing that the functionality is better than the Wii U's because it wasn't built that way.
On another note, kudos to the destiny team for mapping the buttons so that the rear touch pads don't have to be used. I think that's a good first step.
I use remote play a decent amount (almost no lag for me), made REALLY good use of it in lego marvel superheroes (controls fit the title well), however when I tried it in Destiny's beta, I came away aching for my DS4, due to the superior input options of second shoulder buttons and clickable thumbsticks. I could make use enough of the vita setup running around the cosmodrome, but it'd be suicide to take it into the crucible
@ztpayne7 exactly! I think alot of people don't realise that it's not an accessory, I used remote play once, liked the concept and idea of it but I never used it again I use my vita for well vita games
@ztpayne7 Ok, thank you
Sorry but Screw the remote player,we want the game itself on Vita.
Played the beta remote play and loved it. Great for when the missus wants to watch crap tv.
I prefer to play vita games on the vita and ps4 games on the ps4.
I've used remote at a few times, but had to rebuild my network to avoid the lag issues I was having. Probably not going to use it for destiney but was playing minecraft remote play earlier.
It's look good can't wait
So it's not possible to play Destiny on the Vita without a PS4? I assume that the PS4 hardware is the one running the game and it's just streamed wirelessly to the Vita but having a Destiny Vita game is a different story b/c the Vita is not powerful enough to run it by itself? As a sole Vita owner, I could care less about remote play but if you can stream without wifi a la Wii U I would consider buying a PS4 and just play PS4 games on my Vita at home instead of buying an expensive TV.
So how many individual PS Vita consoles in total can be synced to the PS4?
@ollietaro Yes, Remote Play is simply streaming the game from your PS4 through a wi-fi connection i.e. what normally appears on your TV appears on the Vita screen and you can control it through the Vita controls. You don't have to be within your own wi-fi network to do it, I've played PS4 games from my parents house i.e. the game was running on my PS4 at home, and streaming the screen to my Vita screen across the internet. You do need to have a pretty decent connection into the internet on both sides for this to work though (I have 20 Mbps upload to the internet, and my parents had a similar download speed). Clearly though, you'll get the best results when connected to the same wifi network as your PS4 is hooked into so it's not going over the internet.
The issue with it is, many games haven't done what Bungie have done, and specifically tailored the controls to suit the Vita. There are four missing buttons on the Vita compared to the DS4 controller - L1/2 and R1/2 (i.e. the extra shoulder buttons); and L3 and R3 (i.e. clicking the DS4's analogue sticks). These are generally mapped on to the Vita's touch screens (front and back), so it works, but it often doesn't really work well for the game you're playing. As a result, I tend to only use it for games with simple controls that don't really need those buttons.
When the Vita TV comes out, you can use that to remote play to your PS4 on a different TV and use your DS4 controller with it - this will make it a proper remote play facility and is the main reason I'm looking forward to it.
@professorhat Thanks for the info. I don't understand how Vita TV works. Do you need a PS Vita for the Vita TV to work since you'll be playing on another TV, not the PS Vita? I understood the Vita TV to be able to play the Vita games on the TV.
@ollietaro A Vita TV is basically a Vita without a screen or controls, that plugs into your TV. So yes, you can use it to play Vita games on your TV, and you can use it to Remote Play your PS4 to the Vita TV. The advantage in terms of Remote Play is, you can use your real PS4 controller with it, so all the controls map perfectly i.e. you don't get the problem I outlined above with the Vita controls.
You don't need a Vita to use a Vita TV or vice versa - they're two different things.
