PS4 User Interface 1

There’s nothing like a good ol’ fashioned leak to shake you out of a groggy Sunday morning. In truth, this looks fake, so don’t expect it to be officially unveiled at Gamescom 2014 next week – but we kind of wished that it would be. The shots show an enhanced PlayStation 4 user interface, including folders, some minor design improvements, and a whole new Trophy and friend invite system.

The insinuation from the images is that you’d be able to ‘group’ games on the main horizontal menu bar, allowing you to reduce clutter. You’d also be able to push the PlayStation button when you earn a Trophy in order to bring up an overlay which provides a little more information about the trinket itself. Friend invites would work in a similar manner.

However, while the creator’s clearly worked very hard on these mock-ups, we’re still not convinced that they’re real. A video demonstrating the new friend invites looks a little too jerky to be genuine, and makes us question the whole thing. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that Sony should be paying attention to this, as the ideas on display here are a vast improvement over what we have now.
