As promised at EVO earlier in the year, Bandai Namco has punched through the mystery surrounding Tekken 7 at the San Diego Comic-Con overnight. According to producer Katsuhiro Harada, the sequel will have a “very detailed background story”, which will see the ongoing Mishima saga finally come to a close. You’d think that that would have ended when Kazuya tossed Heihachi off the side of a cliff, but there you go. Apparently, this will detail many of the franchise’s biggest mysteries, so if you’re up to date on your King of Iron Fist lore, then you’re going to get a lot out of this game.
Sadly, it doesn’t sound like the gameplay footage is ready to go just yet. “We're still formulating the basic gameplay systems and polishing them,” Harada told the audience at a packed panel overnight. Unsurprisingly, the title will focus on one-on-one battles rather than the team format employed in the recent Tekken Tag Tournament 2. To be honest, we’d be surprised if a tag mode didn’t make its way into the game as an added extra.
A bunch of guest artists are collaborating on the release, including Mari Shimazaki of Bayonetta fame. Moreover, Shinji Aramaki, the director of animated film Tekken: Blood Vengeance, will oversee the title’s opening cinematic, which is certain to be as utterly ridiculous as past intros. We just hope that it employs some new voice actors, because, while we’re big fans of the fighter’s campy storytelling, we’re not sure how long we'd be able to put up with the disjointed performances in this full-length trailer.

Wow that is some amazingly awful voice work...almost but not quite at the 'it's so bad it's good' level.
Wut? Tekken has a background story?
How does cannon story work with games like this? The ending change depending on the who wins and often it seems like someones fate gets ignored in the sequels.
@Jaz007 Whoever the protagonist is seems to be the "official" winner. It has been for all the Tekken games.
What you talking about? The voice acting just adds to the charm, wow is it refreshing to have something that's so Japanese, and not overly-produced and perfect.
I need this in my life! haha I mean look at the original Resident Evil, apart from being the first piece of media to ever scare the crap out of me as a kid, the reason I'll remember it forever is for the legendary voice acting!!
''Now, you, the master of unlocking'' haha!!!! C'mon, if you want perfect voice acting, there is plenty games that can accommodate you, leave Tekken 7 alone, I want my cheesy japanese over-acting gawd dammit!
Almost every Japanese game is plagued with Anime standards that are holding it back. It's amazing what they can get away with, I'm so desensitized by it that if you haven't pointed it out I probably wouldn't have noticed.
@Fire-and-Water Anime standards? A lot of animes have pretty good voice acting. I don't see how anime has worse acting that other forms of media.
