Telltale Games proved that episodic gaming can work with its award-winning The Walking Dead tie-in, but there are signs that the still relatively small studio may have bitten off more than it can chew. Despite us lavishing the first instalment in its Fables spin-off with praise, it’s been almost three months since we last got an update on the property. During that time, the Season Pass for the series has been discounted, making the delay a bitter pill for players to swallow.
Fortunately, the developer says that the long overdue Episode Two should be ready in the first week of February. “It's been a struggle to get this episode out, for a variety of reasons, but it's finally ready to go,” said company president Kevin Bruner. “We are working hard with all of our partners to coordinate everything, but we're confident enough to announce [the release week] here. The episode is looking really good – as is the rest of the season.”
Bruner added that the delay was abnormal, and probably won’t occur again. “We are very concerned about the long delay for this episode, but this is one of those occasions where several things conspired against us,” he continued. “I won't dive into the details, but it's been an unusual and specific set of circumstances and we do not anticipate it happening again as we go forward with the rest of the season.”
We can appreciate the apology, but we do take issue with the fact that early adopters – and presumably Telltale Games fans – have been treated poorly by the company here. Not only did the firm spend a lot of time during the delay talking about a couple of its other upcoming projects, but, as already alluded, it also discounted the price of the Season Pass – despite it only being a fifth fulfilled.
We’re willing to give the company the benefit of the doubt on this occasion – after all, we have no idea what did happen behind-the-scenes – but if the developer’s going to continue to pump out multiple franchises in this model at once, it’s going to have to make sure that it’s much more timely moving forwards. Are you more hacked off than the Woodsman at this turn of events, or are you just eager to finally play the next episode? Spin a yarn in the comments section below.

I was wondering about this one but I did figure since they released Season 2 of TWD and then the news of a Game of Thrones and Borderlands Telltale games that they just got swamped. Interesting note though the season pass never was removed from XBLA.
The took their sweet time with this one, but I'm glad at least it's releasing soon. I really hope it was just this one, because the wait has been way too long.
I think this has turned me off to episodic gaming. I won't buy any game until the story is fully out. (Dlc is a different matter, obviously).
I love TellTale games but everything they touch get's delayed...
They forgot the Vita version though.
@belmont I can see them realising the entire game on consoles/PC/phones/tablets and then going back to see if a Vita release is worth it.
I heard rumors saying that players already figuered the whole game out and already knew how it ended, so the studio took their time to make some changes to the remaining episodes, it might be true, considering they don't want to talk about it. If the development of the Borderlands and Game of Thrones games would have got in the way, they could have just said so, that would make people more happy than sad
@rastamadeus Seems that way since they said the Vita version would come at late 2013.
Hey Telltale, where the eff is that Vita version?
I thought this was gonna be on PS Vita?
