There was plenty of pent-up desire for Gran Turismo 5 when it eventually parked on store shelves all the way back in 2010, so it’s not especially surprising that its successor Gran Turismo 6 has debuted with sales less than its older sibling. However, we weren’t expecting such a sizeable drop. Chart-Track reports that the PlayStation 3 racer debuted with a tally around five times fewer than its oft-delayed forerunner, landing the vehicular excursion in eighth place in this week’s UK sales charts.
As has become a bit of a recurring theme, Call of Duty: Ghosts breached the summit, while FIFA 14 remained consistent – unlike the rest of the Premier League – and dribbled into second. Elsewhere, Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag held onto third and fourth respectively. Meanwhile, Killzone: Shadow Fall proved that the next-gen party is not over by sticking around in ninth, while Knack continued to outsell Super Mario 3D World all the way down in 18th.
You can peruse the full list of movers and shakers through here. Have you stretched your purse strings recently, or are you holding out until the post-Christmas sales now? Did you decide to pick up Polyphony Digital’s latest racer in the end, or are you part of the reason that its numbers are down? Turn on your engine in the comments section below.

Called it, not happy about it but still...
Might've garnered more excitement had it been a PS4 game.
I'm really not all that surprised. I'm a huge fan of GT5, but can't really find many reason to buy this one at full price. I'm still playing PS4 games, I still have a few PS3 games untouched, and I'm looking forward to a few PS4 games. Just seems like really bad timing. 2 months ago, I would have been a day one buyer.
As I've posted elsewhere, this is the first GT game I haven't bought. I've loved the series, but just can't muster any interest for this one.
I still have my PS3 and am actually playing it more than my PS4 at the moment as I have a few unfinished games, but truth be told, GT6 was never on my list. For me, the series now needs a reasonably major overhaul before I'll look at it again.
@Epic
Yeah I could see this one coming, this should have been on ps4! bad move imo.
Maybe this is one reason driveclub delay
It will be lower if driveclub not delayed
@Paranoimia what kind of things would you like changed? Im not sure but i think id rather it be more like forza.
I bought the game, I've not played the series since the 2nd one, but 6 is reminding my why I really liked the game when it first came out 15 years back (which also makes me feel old!).
@Subie98 I always thought Forza got so much attention because it significantly dials down the difficulty with features such as rewind. I'm not sure that's such a good thing, but I admit I don't have much familiarity with the franchise.
@get2sammyb its the same difficulty if you dont use it , in my experience. I havent bought a gt game since a spec however. I liked the custom tuning on forza better but that was it. Im only going to get driveclub , the crew and project cars whenever that comes out. Pretty excited for the crew.
@Ristar42 @Paranoimia @nathanuc1988 @Subie98 Forza is soooooooooo forgiving and easy compared to GT with all the helpers turned off (the default is your tires get stickier if you lose traction, and so is smoothing of the steering input if you flick the stick like a d pad so you don't spin out). It's casual/arcade vs simulator, and 6 feels very different from 5. The new physics are done really well and the visuals are on par with ps4. I got it day 1 digital and have really been enjoying myself. P.S. THERE IS CAR DAMAGE IN GT5 AND GT6 IMPROVES UPON IT. Ahem. I'm sad fans have for some reason abandoned the newest incarnation. I just got 4 other ps3 games (KH1.5, ZoE HD, Ni No Kuni, and Valkyria Chronicles), and don't regret not even opening them yet and only playing GT6
I've been with Forza since the first, up until 4. Since Forza 2 the franchise was going downhill. I didn't have a PS3 until recently and now I finally picked up GT6, so it doesn't matter to me that it might or might not have changed that much to GT5 as I compare it purely to the latest Forza. Which in my case was 4 and honestly and seriously, if you're into motorsports then GT6 is the way to go. Im so happy seeing the open online lobbies (a thing we were begging for in Forza 3) with all the settings you would want, awesome fuel- and tire wear, pitstops, all things Forza does abysmally. The driving itself feels - to me - more realistic in GT too. Forza really is the "easier" more forgiving racer. But I think they could have dropped the "Motorsport" form their title long time ago... but hey you can play car soccer in Forza!!
@Subie98 I just wish they'd add something relevant to it. A proper career path etc. Not necessarily a story like you get in Codemasters games, but just... something... other than random races. Stop wasting time on things like accurate skies and moon buggies.
I certainly don't want it to be more like Forza. That's an arcade racer in comparison. I bought a 360 in December 2011 specifically for Forza 4, and I've never tired of a racer so quickly.
It wasn't long before it descended to the levels of PGR on the original Xbox, with every other 'race' being timed laps through cones. I buy a racing game to race.
I don't know what it is about Xbox racers and their desire to emulate the M25, but at least the GT series gets the cones of of the way in the license tests.
For me(a big GT Fan) it has just come out at the wrong time. I will get next year but it's PS4 month for me! & i would rather buy a next-gan racer now but will still get GT6 to complete my GT collection of PS Games
Maybe some new cars would have helped in the sales and the game is not finished. The game need patches like GT5 to add the content whoich should have been in the game at release.
I hope PD will make a completly new game for the PS4 with more unique cars like a Ford Sierra Cosworth and less Skylines (do we really need so many identical cars?).
And let PD release the game when it is finished, not like with GT5 and GT6 that the content has to be add by patches.
Sure it's not even out a week, give it a chance. I've been playing it since Saturday. I was a bit disappointing at first but I'm not now. What I love about GT6 and all GT games 'apart from the handling' is the creators are chasing perfection and with GT6 they are getting closer. The series has not stood still since GT5. I absolutely love it and the graphic's are better than five after initially thinking they weren't. I love the whole feel of the game.
I can't understand all this talk saying Forza is better. I only played Forza 1, 2 and 4 and no way are any of them in the same league as GT5 or GT6.
