Firm details relating to The Order: 1886 are more mysterious than the legends that the PlayStation 4 exclusive’s lore is built upon, but a Japanese unveiling has unearthed a couple of interesting tidbits about the alternate history adventure. As revealed earlier in the year, the title will put you in the shoes of Galahad, an Arthurian-esque knight with a steampunk shotgun and a fierce moustache. However, the titular ‘Order’ far outdates the hero – and the game’s Victorian setting.
According to the summary provided by SCEJ, the elite faction has lasted for centuries, throughout which time it has fought to protect mankind from a vulgar enemy. That’s a particularly intriguing snippet, because it means that Ready at Dawn could feasibly depict different timelines in future entries. The Order: 1066, for example, could offer a different look at the famous Battle of Hastings, while there’s no reason why the developer couldn’t explore a period even earlier than that.
For this entry, however, the protagonists hold great authority in the British Empire. “All of the members of the Order have pledged absolute loyalty to Her Majesty the Queen,” the documentation explains, meaning that Queen Victoria is almost certain to make a cameo in the release. “It’s also said that they all share a ‘common secret’.” We sense some kind of twist coming on, but naturally we won’t get to learn the specifics of that until release.
The game’s supposedly due out in 2014, and we suspect that this will turn into a long-running franchise if the first entry is successful. It’ll be interesting to see whether Sony decides to add developer Ready at Dawn to its stable of first-party studios, as it’s always been a close partner of the platform holder much like Quantic Dream. Regardless of the faraway future, this is probably our most anticipated PS4 exclusive alongside inFAMOUS: Second Son. We simply can’t wait to learn more.

I think it's pretty obvious that Florence Nightingale, Queen Victoria, and Jack the Ripper are all going to be in this game. Ready at Dawn's said that real historical figures will appear, and this cements it for me.
Certainly has my interest spiked. My comment here means nothing at all, but I really hope they opt for a 3rd person perspective on this game as I cant get enough 3rd person stuff.
I love games that alter history. It's neat seeing how people manipulate the facts that we learn as kids.. Oh you were taught this is what happened? Well what if their was a secret order during this time that no one knew about that protected mankind from aliens?
I just hope all that fighting doesn't mess up Galahads moustache, it's a national treasure.
On a more serious note, the fact that the order has been around for centuries isn't news to me, I've known since I got my copy of Game Informer last month (or was that October?).
I have no doubt that the first game will be successful and am excited to see how everything plays out.
@fullyilly The game is 3rd person.
Yeah the order looks like the real deal. Can't wait to get an official release date.
Not seen enough but everything points to something awesome
I like the concept of secret societies existing for centuries and all, but isn't it a little AC to jump around eras? Not that they'd necessarily be the same or even comparable, but it seems like you'd hit the same walls
@fullyilly
Same here. I prefer 3rd person for certain types of games, or a combo like DeusEx will even due. I want to see the characters moves, and face expressions vs. a set of hands.
@BlueProxy @fullyilly I believe it is 3rd person. @get2sammyb correct me if im wrong
@The_Chenger_123 from the concept art I've seen it certainly looks 3rd person, but I guess that could easily be misleading as the character in view could also be a scene character. I'm living in hope
The gameplay shows it's in 3rd person. They confirmed it was 3rd person.
@The_Chenger_123 I'm almost absolutely positive they already said it was 3rd person. But I have no examples. I'm pretty sure it was in the Game Informer article they showcased.
