As yet, there haven’t been many especially interesting uses of the DualShock 4’s light bar. While the glowing strip is employed to offer additional motion tracking in augmented reality demo The Playroom, its most interesting implementation otherwise is the way in which it changes colour to display your health in Killzone: Shadow Fall. Fortunately, the developers on the recently announced Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition have happened upon a more interesting solution.
According to a blog post on the PlayStation 4 port, the title will employ the next-gen peripheral to reflect the effect of Lara Croft’s torch. “The controller lights up red and orange when using the torch, and quick flashes when Lara is shooting,” reads a post on the franchise’s official Tumblr page. “The PS4 version also allows you to stream the game to the Vita.” Now you’ll be able to protect your favourite archaeologist in, er, bed.
In addition to overhauled visuals and TressFX hair physics, the re-release will come with a slew of extra content, including the previously retailer exclusive Tomb of the Lost Adventurer, as well as eight bonus multiplayer maps, six fresh weapons, four new characters, a bunch of outfits, a digital comic, a digital art book, and ‘The Final Hours of Tomb Raider’ documentary series. Pre-order the port and you’ll also score limited edition art book packaging.
You can watch a trailer of Lara Croft doing her best Nathan Drake impression in the space below. Square Enix is claiming that it hasn’t just up-rezzed the title, but completely rebuilt it. “The team pulled [the game] apart and rebuilt it with obsessive detail and new technology, finally allowing us to reach a vision for the game that we always wanted,” the blog concludes. I'll be interested to hear about how it plays on Vita. I tried AC IV and it seemed to translate well enough. In the end though, I don't think I'll be using remote play too much, I'd rather just play my PS4 games on the HDTV.
@Gamer83 The biggest problem with Remote Play for me are the controls. If a game uses R2/L2 and R3/L3 a lot, it's pretty much unplayable, because the back touch is not a good enough substitute. Assassin's Creed works great because those buttons aren't really used very much.

I'm guessing the FPS are a disaster with remote play then.
@Gamer83 Yeah, Killzone works great — but without being able to access melee/grenades quickly, it's pretty much unplayable.

That's a shame and I have to wonder if Tomb Raider, which is somewhat heavy on the shooting, will have a similar issue.
this looks cool, but I don't like the idea of them charging $60 for it. I'm not a PC gamer, but they have this game on sale for $10 on steam, and that will arguably look better than the PS4 version.
Well this is about the best way to experience the game if you've never played it before. I beat it on PC and the graphics were amazing but I am interested to see how they use the light bar, it actually sounds really cool and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it used that way more often especially in fps. It's good to hear devs are trying to take advantage of PS4's new features. But like Shellybird27 said, I'm not digging the price especially when it's $10 on Steam. It would be one thing if this were a fresh new adventure but this is a game that many people already have. I really do believe publishers need to rethink their pricing schemes for consoles moving forward. This goes all the way back to the whole DRM/ used games situation. If they want people to stop buying their games used then quit trying to nickle and dime your customers.
I love the light on the DS4 pad But it don't seem to last as long as the DS3 pads the DS4 pads There really should be a off button(or a way to turn it off) for the light bar if you want to make the pad last longer, oh well + i thought TR was brilliant but don't think i will buy it again just because it has better graphics + they should remake the PS1's TR1 for the PS4
Will I still like it if I've only played TR1? : ) She kinda looks and acts like a grown-up Ellie in this one
@charlesnarles It's a complete series reboot. You'll like it if you like Uncharted.
Hopefully won't cost €60
I plan on grabbing this when it drops in price, although I am a sucker for artbooks (especially this emerging trend of artbook cases). Hmmm, decisions decisions...
@get2sammyb I only didn't like how Uncharteds baby you with where to go when it's already linear. I want to at least use my brain while I move only my thumbs
I need to play through this game again on PS3. I have beat it twice but that was awhile ago.
Could this game work properly with Move and the Nav controller? Talk about a torch-like controller.
Just checked Amazon, and its $60. Seems reasonable for everything thats included, especially if you didn't finish, or never bought the PS3 version. I might get it, but I'll have some time to think about it first.
