We feel a bit silly for worrying about PlayStation 4 launch game DriveClub now. Runcorn-based developer Evolution Studios has once again done what it does best, and polished the racer to a remarkable degree on the home straight ahead of release. As a result, we’re not especially surprised by the gorgeous gameplay footage embedded below.
There are a few glitches, but as community manager Jamie Brayshaw explained on the PlayStation Blog, the title’s improving by the day. “While there are lots of impressive details on show, you may also spot some things that we’re still working on – like improving the anti-aliasing for certain assets and making sure that nothing pops in to view,” he said.
The day-to-night transition which this raw capture showcases is sped up for demonstrative purposes, but you’ll be able to set those parameters for yourself. You’ll also be able to tweak cloud cover, fog density, and more. Oh, and as for the track, it’s based in Chile. That’s not a bad backdrop for a late evening drive, huh?

DFQ! My jaw just hit the floor. What sorcery is this?
@Sanquine Unbelievable, isn't it?
I saw this earlier on PlayStation LifeStyle and nearly crapped myself over how good it looks. DriveClub may not be open world or have customizable cars (people actually complained about this), but it's still going to be a force to be reckoned with.
I really hope we get to drive around Japan, that would make this a definite day 1 purchase for me.
@get2sammyb Sometime ago like a month or two it looked like poo in comparison to forza 5. Everytime i talked to one of my xbone buddies i got smashed with arguments. Loook at this now:D
The cars sound amazing this is definitely a forza competitor now. And this will only get better until launch.
Damn that dynamic day and night cycles nice showing no AMAZING SHOWING from this game look out Gran Turismo and Forza you just got a new challenger.
The more I see this game the more I want to pre-order it!
@Sanquine I just call them Xboners now.
Anyone else see the reflections on the left side window around 2:13 and onwards ?
Honestly, I am still to be convinced about the game. Not saying that it doesn't look good, just that I think the prof will be in the driving. As a huge GT5 fan the bar is set very high for the actual driving experience.
I also think they are running out of time and pushing to finish for launch. i.e. they have said the rain won't be there "at launch", so obviously a time consideration. They are also talking about a lot of code optimization that still needs to be done etc. I do hope it all comes together.
My plan it to try the free version first before buying.
Wow, Sammy is back =). Missed you,bro =).
Also, I want PSV to have it's own Drvie Club. Ridge Racer is dead, already =(. And NFS is just not my type of game, and arcade racing games like RR or Drive Club is just perfect to play on the go.
I don't even particularly like driving/racing games (unless a new Crash Team Racing comes swerving around the corner.) and yet I just love this video. This, Killzone, and even Knack are definitely showing how much of a powerful and versatile console we'll soon be placing beside/underneath/behind/within our television.
Looks like Evolution has pulled this together brilliantly, never should've doubted that team, this will definitely stand up to Forza 5. Unfortunately I probably won't have the money to buy the full version right away but if the game turns out as well I'm expecting now, I'll definitely upgrade from the PS Plus version at some point.
Wow, Drive Club sure has come a long way since I last saw it. It's quickly becoming a must have for me.
@Gamer83 I guess that's the cool thing - that you'll be able to try it for free!
This road is going to be my favourite for sure
I'm surprised people worried about DriveClub at all, this is Evolution Studios the same guys that made MotorStorm. It was one of the best looking games on the PS3 back in 2007, and played very well indeed.
That was because the demo thay showed at E3 was 33% complete, in fact every game you see unless thay've made a demo especially for an event, is off an old build pre alpha or something.
Looks a smidge more arcade than GT, eh? That's fun tho. Video looked über smooth; you can tell its gonna be really cool with lots of other players
@get2sammyb
Yeah, it doesn't seem right though for all the work that appears to have gone into it. As a consumers, I appreciate it, but if the game ends up being able to stand very nicely next to Forza 5 and GT 6 I want to give Evolution the money it deserves for its efforts.
