In news one notch less predictable than water being wet, Sony has hinted that it will make the poor PlayStation 4 squint by shining a spotlight on the system during its imminent GamesCom press conference. Writing on the firm’s official Facebook page, an eager corporate scribe noted that the next generation console and its games lineup will be the “focus once again” at this year’s German convention.
Some forum goers are freaking out over the comment, assuming that the impending hardware’s presence will detract from the PlayStation Vita’s showing, but we don’t necessarily agree. There’s nothing stopping the firm from focusing on the futuristic format, and still announcing several handheld games. In fact, we suspect that this is going to be a pretty fertile showing for all of the Japanese giant’s machines.
In case you missed the confirmation over the weekend, the press conference itself is set to take place in Cologne on 20th August at 18:00PM BST (10:00AM PDT / 13:00PM EDT). As mentioned, we get the sneaking suspicion that this is going to be a really big one. But what titles do we think are going to show up? Well, we’ll have a full post on that in the future, but we’re willing to bet our left shoe that Housemarque’s recently announced Super Stardust successor appears at some point.

You know what I really want to be announced? Gravity Rush 2 for... PS4. Don't kill me...
@get2sammyb that'd work. We'll need touchpad games after all. And Vita is like a part of the PS4 experience, so they'll hopefully give it some love. I want a KotOR sequel : ) Mass Effect is full of Treknobabble
@get2sammyb That'd be cool. Gravity Rush was the first game I downloaded when I got Vita (Thank you PS+!) and Im quite enjoying it. Its suprising what can be done on a handheld these days. I think the games artistic style would be a spectacle in 1080p for sure.
Regardless I think Gamescom will be quite interesting. Sony will more than likely be focusing completely on games
@MadchesterManc I'm drooling just thinking about it. I love, love, love Gravity Rush.
The thing about E3 2013 is Sony didn't really show many ground breaking games and they didn't need to because they took advantage of Microsoft kicking themselves in the face. Gamescom is going to be murder. Sony's going to get away with it too .
really looking forward to finding out what Sony has in store.
my PS4 is preordered, and I'm eagerly awaiting a release date.
I'd most like to see from Sony an official release date, and precisely which games (AAA and PSN alike) we can look forward to for the launch day, not just launch window.
Also, here's hoping to some new game announcements of those exclusives they've been keeping under wraps!
I think I'd prefer Gravity Rush 2 on Vita but in the end all that really matters is the game officially gets announced. I'd love it to hapen at this event.
@Gamer83 Same here!
At this point, I don't think the PS4 needs anymore spotlight. It's safe to assume it'll be a success.
What we need is some Vita goodness. I still need a couple more reasons to get that thing!
Deep down anyone?
Well, they did say that Gamescom would be a psvita event, so actually this is terrible news for psvita. They said that E3 was all about ps4 and Gamescom would be about psvita; I guess psvita will once again get no love. Thanks Sony. That's brilliant.
They have no one to blame but themselves when none of their first tier studios ever worked on psvita. What exactly did they expect? People to buy a vita for the indies? Gimme a break.
@get2sammyb Any of you guys going to be there?
@ZeD Not this year. We'll be working around the clock on coverage, though!
@get2sammyb I love this time of year! This then euro gamer - Christ it is brilliant!!!
I would like to see them reveal a release date and more details on the HDD drive (ie. form factor, type of SATA it supports, etc). I don't think 500GB is going to be enough especially if you get a lot of digital content. I plan on upgrading the HDD right away so I don't have to worry about it for a long time.
I'd like to see some news on either Fallout 4 or Persona 5. Just a slight tease would satisfy me!
Soul Sacrifice 2 and Gravity Rush 2 and I am happy
