In the seven years since the original God of War title released on PlayStation 2, Sony’s gory melee franchise has sold over 21 million copies. The best selling title in the series is God of War III, which has sold over five million units worldwide since releasing in March 2010.
Shannon Studstill, senior director of product development at Sony Santa Monica, said:
We at Sony Santa Monica Studios thrive on delivering fantastic gaming experiences to the community and to our fans across the world. We are extremely proud to have hit this incredible milestone, and owe a large part of it to our fans for all of their support throughout these years.
Sony will be hoping to increase the tally with God of War: Ascension, which is set to release on 12th March next year.
