Naughty Dog's sticking with PS3

Naughty Dog’s responded to erroneous reports suggesting that it is about to jump on the PlayStation Vita development bandwagon, stating emphatically that it is “not working on anything for the PS Vita”.

Community manager Arne Meyer was quick to thwart reports stemming from comments made by new SCEA marketing manager Guy Longworth, which were misconstrued to suggest that Naughty Dog was working on a Vita title.

That’s not true according to Meyer, simply because consoles play to Naughty Dog’s strengths:

We're not working on anything for PS Vita. I won't say never, ever, but there's no plans for it right now.

I hate to sound like a treading the line spin-meister here, but I've said that traditionally consoles have played to our strengths - and desires to push the utmost limit of resources and memory our tech and engine.

That can change with the right handheld, [that's] why I said I won't ever say 'never'. But we haven't encountered that yet - that's why Jak & Daxter: The Last Frontier wasn't an internal project for us.

We somewhat understand the enthusiasm for wanting an award winning studio like Naughty Dog to build something for PS Vita, but we'd much rather the developer stayed in its comfort zone. Naughty Dog makes console games, and it always has. Let them stick to that. There are plenty of other great studios under Sony’s umbrella – Bend, Novarama, Double Eleven – that are more than capable of keeping the PS Vita well serviced with quality content.
