We're no longer surprised by Ghost Recon: Future Soldier delays.

The game — which was originally due in March — will now release on May 22nd in North America and May 25th in the UK. We make it the shooter's fifth delay since being announced way back in January 2009.

A beta is set to release on the PlayStation Network in April, with more details to follow in the coming months.

“Ubisoft prides itself on creating some of the most compelling and innovative experiences in digital entertainment,” said Ubisoft's Adrian Lacey.

“Today we are feature complete in our multiplayer, single player and four player coop campaign modes. We have taken the decision to move the date in order to ensure that all these ingredients are pushed to the highest level and provide a truly unique shooter experience. The Ghost Recon franchise is known for setting the standard of high definition gaming and we believe the extra couple of months will allow us to reach that goal. We would like to thank all Ghost Recon fans for their patience and look forward to unveiling some exciting new elements in the coming weeks.”

We got a glimpse of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at a private demo late last year, and while we felt that the game had some interesting ideas — it was clearly a long way from being finished. Perhaps the delay's for the best?
