Bethesda's Making A Game And It's Coming Together Nicely. That's All They're Saying.

It's been two years since we last heard anything from the team, but executive producer Todd Howard had some reassuring words for fans at QuakeCon. He told Eurogamer that the game's "pretty far along" and that 90 people are currently working on it. Howard reckons the stretch between the game's announcement and its launch will be the shortest yet.

He added that the game will run on existing consoles (so PlayStation 3 then) and that it's using an updated version of the engine used for Fallout 3.

"That's our starting point — the Fallout 3 tech. It started with Morrowind, we went to Oblivion, we did a lot between Oblivion and Fallout 3 because now we had final hardware — with Oblivion we had six months on final hardware, so Fallout 3 technically does a lot more than Oblivion. The new stuff is an even bigger jump from that," he said.

Howard refused to announce an, erm, announcement because he didn't want to disappoint fans should the dates shift. We reckon the announcement's not far off though. Would a Fall 2011 release for whatever the game is (it's totally more Elder Scrolls) be reasonable?
