The project came about after Insomniac had spent many years working on the Spyro platform titles. Studio head Ted Price described the project as "exciting" as the company had spent so long making sequels.

"Girl With A Stick" was pitched as being a mix of Tomb Raider and Zelda. But the concept didn't stick, and Ratchet & Clank was made instead. The problem, according to Insomniac, was that the game just wasn't fun.

Insomniac announced a multiplatform game earlier this week.
