When beginning the game, you'll be presented with four options: a question, your preferred play style, the difficulty mode you wish, and how often you want tips to be given to you. While the others are straightforward, the question around your favourite MGS game is a little strange.

On this screen, you can choose between eight options:

  • I like MGS 1!
  • I like MGS 2!
  • I like MGS 3!
  • I like MGS 4!
  • I like MGS: Peace Walker!
  • I like MGS V!
  • I like everything in the MGS series!

This is a lot of options to consider, and a big question in itself given the high quality of the Metal Gear Solid series.

However, the impact this question has on your playthrough is actually very minimal.

If you look in the bottom right corner of any of the options on-screen, you shall see this option only dictates any bonus equipment you have access to at the start. You can get different Uniforms and Face Paints to begin the game with, all of which are mere extras and aren't essential for sneaking.

Additionally, a further message in the bottom corner clarifies: "Clear the game to obtain all of this additional equipment."

No matter which option you choose, you'll unlock all the Uniforms and Face Paints for a New Game+ playthrough.

As such, don't sweat this question much: simply answer it truthfully and enjoy the game.
