Thor is a much bigger threat than Bjorn, despite the fact that you're fighting him just a short while after. Thor's attacks can be fast, and some of them hit especially hard. Because you're still near the start of the game, you won't have much health to work with, so you need to approach this battle with a real degree of caution.

Thor has a range of attacks that make him a versatile foe. When he's at a distance, he'll fling his hammer, Mjolnir, in your direction. Dodging is your best bet here, although some throws can also be parried with the right timing. Others, however, are unblockable, so keep a very close eye out for those red rings.

Up close, Thor is a bit of a menace. His swings are fairly easy to see coming, but you'll need to parry them to get the most out of this fight. You'll also have to watch out for a charging attack that must be dodged, otherwise Kratos will be grabbed and slammed across the arena for big damage.

When Thor is open (he's either finished a combo or you've parried his attacks), go for a combo of your choosing — but don't overcommit. The easiest way to die in God of War Ragnarok is to take your aggression too far, and leave yourself vulnerable.

If anything, Thor teaches you to fight carefully. You need to be able to watch and subsequently learn what your opponent is doing, and then react accordingly. At this early stage in the game, Thor may prove to be a problem — especially if you're playing on one of the harder difficulties — but this boss battle does have checkpoints, allowing you to restart in the middle of the fight, rather than right at the beginning.
