@Voltan@nessisonett Makes total sense, so basically they've made something that Sony made 10 years ago! The only way that makes logical sense is if they can make them for even cheaper than the original Switch and sell them for more!
Nice. I'm actually perfectly happy to swap mine and a couple of spare joy cons for an OLED screen as I think the current screen is the worst part of the console.
I wonder if some of the bloomberg reporting has confused details about the next generation of switch with this refresh. They seemed pretty sure about the 4k dlss stuff and it's not here. Selfish of me but I'm kinda glad this is same practically as base switch model. No hardware version software exclusives is good news.
A bigger screen is just going to make games that go subnative in handheld mode look even worse. Although maybe the improved colors will make a difference? Seems like more of a sidegrade than anything.
People were expecting the Switch version of the PS4 Pro, but got the equivalent of a 3DS XL instead. Except somehow even less necessary (OG 3DS really was a bit of a mess, design-wise).
@Kidfried I dont think Nintendo could have set expectations.
I mean, Bloomberg and countless others were running around saying 4K output, more powerful, variable refresh rate, OLED screen, 7 inches, revised dock.
What is Nintendo going to do? Come out a year ago (Yes really) and say "Its only mostly true. Look forward to this in 18 months".
Bloomberg and others got a lot right, and a lot wrong. But by sticking to their guns of ONE revision (Some are now saying there will be ANOTHER one, because this just cant die) for (And I have to stress) actual years, left Nintendo in a position of "Well its not our fault."
There have been reports of an upgraded Switch since before the original model even hit store shelves. No amount of setting expectations can stop Mochizuki and Jeff Grubb from waffling on about what they now claim are two different products.
Now Playing: Mario & Luigi Brothership, Sonic x Shadow Generations
Now Streaming: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
@Kidfried Eh. More vibrant colors, but softer overall image quality thanks to the bigger screen.
Granted, I'm a sucker for new hardware, so if I can manage to upgrade for a fraction of the cost, I probably will, but with the chip shortage and wild popularity of the console in general, I'm expecting the OLED model to be near impossible to find. And this is definitely not worth purchasing outright as an OG and Lite owner.
I'll admit advertising a built in LAN port for the new dock made me chuckle a bit.
@Octane Nintendo would've made a ton of money from "premium" joycons with better build quality, like the Xbox Elite controller.
This should've been a New Nintendo 3DS type deal. OLED + somewhat more powerful internals that'd make it where more games run at 720p undocked would be a significant boost to image quality.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@nessisonett You sure? Or is it same battery capacity? Honest question because a friend of mine led me to believe it’s the same battery but it’s advertised to last longer now (I never followed much switch news and stuff so I’m not sure which is true)
As someone who plays mostly docked this was not the revision I was looking for. On current trends this seems to be a revision every two years so hopefully the 2023 one will be better.
@nessisonett Ok. Thing is, an OLED screen should have significantly lower power consumption than an LCD screen. The thing I don’t know is how much that is relative to the device’s total consumption
@Ralizah TBH, even I'm kinda annoyed because everyone was shoving this big spectacular Switch upgrade in your face; and if you doubted the ''leaks'' you were told half a dozen times how stupid you were, cause they clearly knew more than you did. Well, here we are. The Switch OLED whoop-dee-swooping-doo, what a time to be alive.
