@Knuckles-Fajita Steam's robust support for console controllers is low-key my favorite aspect of that service now. You can even get it to work with non-Steam games that you play through the Steam launcher! While I think the Steam Controller is, imo, a complete joke (I bought one, and the thing is just hideous and uncomfortable), I love the way it spurred them to allow customization of other controllers as well.

RE2 on PC with dual stick controls + gyro aiming via the DS4 is heaven. I'm sure it's similarly pleasant with a Pro Controller.

@KratosMD I always use the pro controller when using my Switch (unless if I am on the go), and like others here I love it. I highly recommend it for any Switch owner.

@KratosMD Yep. I never use the Joycons anymore unless I am away from my TV, and by that I mean if I am away from my house for a few days on vacation or something.

@KratosMD It's so good. I use split Joy-Con for some games, like Mario Odyssey where it just feels more natural to me, or something like Sonic Mania (I'm weird) or Tetris, where the D-Buttons are infinitely better than a D-Pad.

Again though, that feature set, perfect weight and size. So good, The only controller of that size I can use. Damn thumb injuries!

Also, and this may stun you, the battery in the Pro Controller is identical to that in the 3DS. 40 hours baby!

@KratosMD The Dualshock has a lower battery life than the JoyCon despite the JoyCon having a far far smaller battery capacity. They last 20 hours. Plus you factor in the motion, camera, rumble motors that can go to insanely high frequencies so high you can't even FEEL the vibrations, and somehow it still comes out lasting longer.

Honestly it's not like the JoyCon and Pro Controller are engineering feats with their batteries.

It's that the DS4 is just pretty damn bad.

I mean hell, now the Switch ITSELF can last longer than a DS4 and that's playing the damn games!

@KratosMD Ever own a Wii U Pro? That thing supposedly lasts 80 hours.

Even the joycons last up to 20.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I too get a good 8-10 hours out of my DS4.

That said, @Ralizah is right, the Switch Pro Controller is a beast in terms of battery life and design. My fave controller of this gen. I do want a Wii U Pro controller too.

Out of interest, has anyone played Pillars of Eternity either on Switch or any other platform? Sorely tempted but not sure about it...

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy The newer Switch can last around 9 hours playing non intensive games it seems. Stuff like Sonic Mania that barely uses the GPU for instance.

As you say though, magical Switch. That's a special case. On average my DS4 lasts around 5 hours minimum brightness. Doesn't help it has two lightbars that do nothing though. Looks cool though.

As for games this year on Switch....err...

Links Awakening
Astral Chain
Dragon Quest XI S
Luigi's Mansion 3
Pokemon Sword
Daemon x Machina
Spyro

Probably some smaller stuff too.

As for PS4 ER.....yep. I got nothing and I just bought a Pro...

The only games really on my radar are:

Astral Chain
Links Awakening
Pokemon

And the only PS4 game on my radar is Control

Some good gaming to finish off the year, though.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Ha ace - I clearly need to be less lazy! Thanks for that though.

I actually always confuse Pillars of Eternity with Divinity. @kyleforrester87 Thanks though, saved me £35 as loading screens kill me on games and no way the Switch port will be better than PC or other consoles.

@KratosMD, honestly Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, Link's Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Pokemon S/S all look good to me. Not too mention smaller stuff like the Grandia HD Collection which is dropping soon.

There's so much stuff to play on both my Switch & PS4 (not to mention other stuff like movies & shows I want to watch), that I doubt I'll ever be able to play it all. Heck, I'm still working my way through Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3's story mode (and have barely touched the Infinity Trials).

I haven't even picked up Fire Emblem, but am more & more tempted by the day since people are raving about it, lol.

@Rudy_Manchego If you like old school RPGs like Baulders Gate or Planescape Torment it's great. If not or you haven't played games like that there can be a steep learning curve and battles can seem slow and boring with gameplay being redundant at times.

@Tasuki I haven’t played anything like this since the late 90’s/early 00’s but keen to try some different genres etc. I seem to have more success with Switch games in terms of longer time investments since I can play when my wife is using the tv or when I am travelling.

@RR529 @Knuckles-Fajita @KratosMD I think the rest of the year is pretty awesome for Switch games for me. Astral Chain isn’t the Bayonetta 3 I really want but will give it a chance, then Link’s Awakening, Luigi ‘s Mansion 3 and probably the Witcher 3.

So, this year belongs to Switch for me, between Astral Chain, DQ XI S, Pokemon S/S, and a whole bunch of third party games I'll be getting on Switch.

Next year is PS4 dominant, though, with Cyberpunk 2077, FF7R, Sakura Wars, (probably) Ys IX, and Persona 5 Royal all commanding my attention.

@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy I've mentioned it here, but, with a cheap-ish 8bitdo adapter, you can play Switch games with the DS4. It works quite well!

BTW, my DS4 lasts five hours max. Sometimes less. And that's with settings dialed down. I want your magic DS4 that lasts for ten hours.
