My son has been wanting to set the PS2 up mainly to play the old WWE games problem is we only have Smart TVs with HDMI inputs. I have read that there are PS2 to HDMI converter boxes and cables out there. I am wondering if anyone has used any of them and can suggest one.

@Tasuki I use different converters for N64, SNES, NES, MegaDrive and they work fine but keep in mind that your experience can vary

Through trial and error, I picked the ones that suit each console the best.

Unfortunately, I do not own a PS2 yet BUT if there is a special dongle like you said "PS to HDMI" use that first. I have Wii to HDMI one and it work great on a smart TV!

A PS3 FAT BC model is always an option, but expensive and hard to find one

@Zuljaras Yeah unfortunately I don't have the money nor the time to track down an original PS3. I do have a slim model which I use for PS One games.

@CthulhuFhtagn Yeah a CRT would be ideally but those are so hard to find nowadays, even my local thrift stores have stopped carrying them. I do see on pop up on places like Craigslist and offer up but they always want to much for them.

Thanks for the replies. I am continuing to do research on it.

@Tasuki You might be better off trying to find a decent (if older) flat panel. Our old 40" Sony (1080p - I think the model is something like KDL40W605?) still has component input as well as a SCART connector (how retro!).
We ran out of HDMI sockets on that (it has 4 but we've got a PS5, PS3, Evercade and a Roku Express occupying those) so we had to get a component cable to connect the PS3 (same cable as the PS2, I think)

@sanderson72 Do they even sell flat-screen with component inputs anymore? That might be a route to go as well if I can find one at a decent price.

@Tasuki Our replacement 43" 4K LG one doesn't have anything apart from HDMI sockets so I'd suspect no.
That said, I think you might find one on eBay or CEX - 'tis the season for people to update their TVs to bigger ones, after all!
There are a few Bravia KDL40W605 models on eBay for about £100 over here and I have to say, regardless of the age, the Sony's picture is still superb - in some ways better than the 10 years younger LG.

I have an older Samsung TV with component input... but one day it will curl up it's little legs and go to the beyond. When that happens I'll be getting a USB powered Component to HDMI adapter.

I have an unpowered one for my NTSC-J slimline PS2 and while it does work, it's not great and you do lose some colour information especially fidelity with darker games/imagery... which is a pain considering I like survival horror (Silent Hill 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica are the titles I got with the console).

The powered adapters maintain visual information far better than the unpowered ones so that's my two cents.
