@JimbobLink I'm grateful for the recommendation! Hadn't heard of the show before. Checked out a random episode earlier and seems like something that could fill the gap between GVMERS videos. It's good that they take a different approach, as well, by presenting the individual opinions of a few talking heads. I think I personally prefer the GVMERS channel's objectivity and style, but that isn't a criticism!
"We want different things, Crosshair. That doesn't mean that we have to be enemies."
I think of these threads as useless usually because everyone has particular tastes.
It's a good thread and despite its title mentioning Recommendations specifically, I feel that it's akin to The Movie Thread, The TV thread, The Music Thread etc.
YouTube and similar sites are just another medium with plenty of great content that's worth discussing even if everyone has varying tastes, just like in the other threads I mentioned. Obvs, there's loads of trash content on YouTube as well, much like there is on TV, in film and music!
I mentioned some of my faves when the thread got started but I have a couple new ones. The Lock Picking Lawyer is ridiculously relaxing and so good to put on before sleep. Also NileRed does chemistry videos about things you may just want to know but don't have the equipment and knowledge to try yourself. It's awesome.
Another one I used to watch a bit but forgot to mention in my post from ages ago is Numberphile. It's a great maths channel that really explains random maths stuff in interesting ways and with interesting people.
This sort of stuff makes me wish I paid more attention in school!
@lolwhatno it's not the same but people can discuss it in a similar way. E.g. "What's your favourite YouTube Channel? What's your favourite band/singer? I like AVGN. I like David Bowie." It's just different mediums used for art and information.
Yeah it's an awesome channel! I loved the video where Hannah Fry and another guy whose name I forget, cut up an inflatable globe into two spirals with a connecting strip to show the most true to scale map of the Earth we could make. Obviously it's useless for navigation because there would be loads of voids between destinations!
@lolwhatno yeah that's fair enough, to be honest I don't really say what I like as a recommendation. It's more to see if anyone else likes it too. I don't really like watching other people play video games (unless I need a guide or something) which seems to be the most popular thing these days so I doubt I'll have much in common. I mainly enjoy interesting or funny videos. I do quite enjoy the sonic dub videos and also AVGN actually though so there's some crossover with games
My profile pic? Before it was a character called Greg from a game called Night in the Woods. Now it's an Andorian woman from Star Trek Enterprise. I forget her name now tbh
