I know some people are sick and tired of remasters/remakes, but this is the world we live in now, also with some games becoming extremely difficult to play on modern hardware. I thought I would make this forum as I'm very curious to see what hidden gems/under appreciated master pieces you guys suggest. As a loose rule I would say the game has to be before the PS4 era, because the majority of those games still look very good and can be played easily on PS5, Box art is optional.
Ok so I will start things off, this may come as a surprise to some of you,
For me this is one the best horror games ever made. I think the game was the start for me noticing how important voice acting is for a video game, long are the days on Resident evil 1's voice acting (yikes).
I remember getting this on release as a random purchase and being absolutely terrified the whole time playing it. This game was unfortunately over looked over by a lot of people and only has a cult following to this day. Another thing that really stopped it getting more recognition was the fact it was stuck on the gamecube.
So yeah believe it or not, but Eternal Darkness for me deserves to have the remake treatment, ideally in the same vein as Metal Gear Solid Delta just had, keeping the same voice lines and cut scenes, and obviously release it from Nintendo prision so all platforms can get to expierence what a true psychological horror game is.
The obvious lol answer is that I want Final Fantasy VII remade. I really do even though that's clearly never going to happen now.
My next answer was Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 - but it looks like we're on that path.
My next answer after that (seriously) is the original Silent Hill and that's happening too. It's really all happening for me at the minute.
After that my next pick would be Metal Gear Solid but since we got 3 that will probably happen.
So I guess my silly answer that has never been hinted at that probably won't happen but I'd love to see it - Mass Effect. All of them. I really love Mass Effect and I love the Legendary Edition but I also love remakes. And the thought of them just making those games as beautiful as they can be with all the necessary gameplay tweaks (get rid of the car!) to make the series a coherent whole - I'm into it. It'll never happen though.
@johncalmc I'm really excited for Silent Hill 1 getting remade, as much as I love SH2R it was tad bit too long, which ironically was Cronos' problem too (great game still). But I have faith that Bloober will nail the remake and not over bloat every section by 2 hours!!
I was quite saddened by the reveal of the Deus Ex remaster the other day.
It took me by storm when it first came out and I can still remember playing it on my PC with its huge, clunky CRT monitor and Creative Labs desktop speakers. Fantastic experience, but the remake looks to do way too little and I would absolutely have preferred a full remake instead. Alas, that doesn't seem to be on the cards, so I guess this will have to do.
Other than that, I miss the old PS2 Buffy the Vampire Slayer games and with the series being rebootqueled these days, time could be right for a remake.
@Oram77 I do agree actually. Not everything has to be an odyssey. There's something brilliant about the short game you can blast through in a night or two. That's one of the reasons why - and I know this is a take nobody agrees with - the Resident Evil 3 remake is my favourite. It's short and sweet. It also has way less emphasis on puzzles which might help too.
Silent Hill 2 didn't need to be 18 hours long. And there were moments where you could feel that they were stretching it out a bit. Every section was just a little longer than it needed to be. I did like it though. What's great too - and this is another take nobody agrees with - Silent Hill 2 is actually my least favourite of the good Silent Hills. 1 is my favourite which is why I'm so excited they're redoing it.
@FuriousMachine Yes unfortunately for you Deus Ex fans that reveal just came across (dare I say) as lazy and souless. This is a prime example why people do not like their favourite games just being put thought a HD filter and that's it. We need more Bluepoint studios in the world as they actually care when remaking a game.
I think we had one of these threads around a year or so back. Theres loads of games I’d like remade tbh, top of the bunch of games which are currently not being remade/remastered would be Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction, Freedom Fighters, Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
I’d also love the mooted Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake to pan out, am excited for the Resi-Remakes of Code Veronica and the original… and would love a remaster of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on the inevitable Metal Gear Master Collection vol. 2.
I’m sure that there is a raft of more remakes that I’d like too but it’s early and I haven’t had a cuppa yet 😅.
@graymamba I really am curious what will be included in VOL, 2, surely it will be MGS4/5 and peace walker, Rising maybe be pushing too much but I wouldn't say no if it was there, hell maybe even twin snakes (even though I depise it). Regarding the main line and remakes, we haven't been told how well Delta has sold. But I think it's more than likely MGS1 will be next.
Puppeteer was a pretty innovative platformer that came out at the end of the PS3 era. A cool art style and made to be quite replayable with puppet heads you find later in the game unlocking areas in previous levels.
The Banner Saga series. It was an amazing series where decisions you made really did make a difference. Another unique art style that doesn’t need a huge revamp but could still look stunning. The isometric turn based combat was really cool too. Could easily win a new legion of fans.
The original SOCOM game was really good too and I loved the audio command feature. It could easily be redone so it could be multiplayer now as well as single player.
@Thrillho Had to look up Puppeteer but yeah that looks really cool, gives me Yoshi Story vibes, see it was done by Japan Studio, god they got done so dirty
Remake or reboot 🤷♂️ either way it'd be Alpha Protocol
I didn't really know what an RPG was, but I knew I liked the things I later discovered to be key RPG elements. Plus, you know, it was spy porn. I still don't know why there wasn't a deluge of this type of game in the spy thriller genre.
I'd also take any and all the Deus Ex games properly remade/rebuilt and rebooted for current gen @FuriousMachine I played bits of human revolution with a friend, but never properly played any of them myself. One of the biggest misses in my gaming history, I reckon. I think I was quite possibly very stupid. I'm not interested in that one they announced though as I think I only care about remakes and remasters (or reboots) that can pass as current gen, or feel like new games altogether.
The Saboteur, Mercenaries, Undead Nightmare, The Getaway, Driver, Cold Fear, Alice Madness Returns, The Die Hard Trilogy, Nightmare Creatures, Folklore, Tenchu (with the level editor) Kingsfield, to name but a few. Maybe G-Police too, I'm playing Cyberpunk at the moment and keep remembering that game. Non-Playstation one would be Judge Dredd from the Sega Mega Drive. And of course all of the old Hitman games would be great too.
These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.
@Ravix I was going to say Alpha Protocol but the jank is what made it special to me. It was trying to be so many different games and the result was so memorable.

@GirlVersusGame The Getaway definately deserves as remaster/remake, it paved the way for everything that followed, my only gripe was the god damn indicators didn't make sense in some parts 🤬.
@GirlVersusGame tbf, Obsidian still specialises in jank to this day. I assume Sega own the IP though 🤷♂️
I guess Fallout: New Vegas could be a candidate for a remake. I'm sure Xbox could actually make that happen as they own the souls of all of the studios that could make it happen.
When it seems you're out of luck.
There's just one man who gives a f*************ck
⚔️🛡🐎
@Ravix You wonder why game studios weren't pumping out stealth game at the time, I think it was because everybody and their dog were still trying to copy Resident Evil 4's game and we has so many clones that were god awful, this exampe comes to mind straight away.
