HBO is definently among the S-tier when it comes to quality track record but they also aren't perfect. I don't doubt they will employ top tier talent in this thing but I just don't know.

The excellent Netflix animated series Arcane just got its second season release date. Well, dates, plural, actually.
Split into three acts, they will release Nov. 9, Nov. 16 and Nov. 23
Looking forward to it! I'm very glad I came to it late (first watched it just this spring) so I didn't have to wait too long for the continuation
@FuriousMachine I cannot overstate how much I'm looking forward to this. Was waiting for a date so I can schedule a re-watch of the first season.

@FuriousMachine It really does. I'm hopeful though. They seem to have taken their time getting out this 2nd season, and it's the last so knowing they could probably have milked this for much longer but didn't is reassuring as well.
On a seemingly unrelated note, I opened a record store middle of last year (which is part of why I stopped posting much) and in addition to the soundtrack for this releasing on vinyl today my wholesaler also carries the 4k steelbooks so I was able to grab one of those as a keepsake at relatively low cost. I actually don't even have anything to play it on but wanted to own it anyway.

@zupertramp Cool! I expect the record store business is a frightening endeavour to embark upon these days; hope it's working out well for you. We need more of these stores, if you ask me.
I could not run such a store for the same reason I cannot run a bar: I'd be constantly helping myself to my own stock
Speaking of Netflix animation, they just released the trailer for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch
Good choice of voice actor for Sam Fisher, though I'd say that Ironside would probably still be able to do good voice work (not sure how he is these days, though... maybe he's retired?)
@FuriousMachine yeah therein lies the rub right. you wanna be passionate about your product but then that passion becomes a bit of a liability as well. It's like how do you keep from getting high on your own supply?
In any case, looking forward to the show. I wanted to do a re-watch of Haunting of Hill House in the latter part of October so it looks like I can probably fit that in and go right to Arcane. I do wonder if the season being split into acts disrupts the flow at all. We'll see.

@zupertramp Yeah, I'm in two minds about whether to wait to watch until all episodes are out or not. If the pacing is good, I think a week's cliffhanger break can enhance my experience of a show. As you said, we'll see... not long now
Watched the first episode of The Penguin on Max. It's pretty interesting so far! Wasn't aware though that it took place after the movie The Batman. Probably should watch it just to get caught up with the story.
Watched the first two episodes of The Boondocks this morning. It's amazing.

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Highly reccomended from what I've seen so far. There is a british actor that voices one of the characters, and I would have never guessed it was him. Hope you enjoy it also!

@PegasusActual93 this was kinda my fear. was wondering what they could possibly do in mob boss territory that wasn't covered in sopranos. But idk, maybe I'll get around to watching one day.

@zupertramp
It's similar in tone to the Sopranos but judging by the first episode the story is going in a very very different direction to that of Sopranos so I would recommend just giving it a shot and coming to your own conclusion.

I've just seen that Scavengers Reign is on Netflix here in the UK, and is a Max Original. Which is strange cos I thought Sky had rights to their shows here. I only noticed as someone on one of the podcasts i watch keeps on mentioning it and has been waxing lyrical about it. Suffice to say I've added it to my watchlist.

The missus and I finished Dark Matter and Happy Valley - season 3 over the weekend and both were very good fair play.
We did try and get into Dark Matter back when it first released a few months back but found the first couple of episodes a slog and gave up. Glad we gave it another go though, as it quickly got interesting from around the 3rd episode mark and by the end was mind-bendingly crazy, as any multiverse-spanning saga should be. While it does try to stick as close to quantum law as possible, there were moments where I questioned certain plot points and devices but on the whole was a thought-provoking and entertaining show.
The final season of Happy Valley, as was the case with the previous two was great. We’ve watched all three seasons over the course of 2024 and can’t believe we missed it until now. Sarah Lancashire is incredible as the lead and there are some great performances from her co-stars. Great writing too, that includes both season-long arcs, as well as an arc that encapsulates all three seasons.
Nightsleeper on BBC One is absolutely terrible but totally watchable. I roll my eyes every 5 seconds but it’s also strangely compelling. Looks brilliant in 4K HDR too on iPlayer considering most shows look a bit rubbish on that app.
