My favorites genres in music are rock and rap, with rap being my favorite of the two as I think the most important thing is music is the lryics. My favorite artist is Eminem (clean versions, as with anyone I listen to with swearing) due his immense lyrical skill and overall brilliance. My second favorite is probably Linkin Park. Their best album's are Hybrid Theory and Metora. Minutes to Midnight and A Thousand Suns were good/alright, but nothing near their first two albums. Livings still wasn't as good, bit still fantastic. When The Hunting Party was released it was the best album since Meteora, and return to form. I recommend it to anyone who misses the old Linkin Park.
Some other artists I like:
Celldweller - he's pretty much electronic rock mixed with dubstep. Definitally the best emotional use of dubstep I've ever seen.
My favorite of his: http://youtu.be/L27O8zPgzxo
Babymetal - My favorite foreign band. They're an all girl metal band, but they don't sing like it's metal though. They sing in a more J-pop way and are completely adorable. Here's a great music visor by them: http://youtu.be/cirhQ8iLdbw
NF - He's a new rapper that I really like. I just got his album "Mansion" and it's great. Another thing I personally really like about him, is that he's a talented rapper that doesn't swear. Here's a really good track from his album: http://youtu.be/V9dIVtoxIyo
@jaz007 I went to see Eminem in 2001 great live act he really puts on a good performance. he has had is ups and downs musically I like his early work and his last two albums are really good. I got Kendrick Lamars To Pimp a Butterfly a few weeks ago that's a great album worth checking out if you are into rap. Also A$AP Rocky last album was good probably better than his first.
@johncalmc: check out the band, Feathers. They're a great electronic/80's synthpop all girl outfit from Texas and supported Depeche Mode on tour.
I bought their debut album after hearing their song 'Dark Matter' on GTAV. I loved it.
@ApostateMage: I've not heard this band before, but listening to them they sound a lot like Marsheaux, which is a good thing since I like them very much. Thanks!
So far the album of the summer and year is The Avalanches. I did not think it was possible to top Since I left you which I loved in 2000 but the long wait has been worth it for Wildflower. The samples they use and vocals is so well put together highly reccomended.

@johncalmc: I'm not sure if this is up your alley exactly, but regardless it's one of my favorite bands at the moment:
ICE CHOIR: "Unprepared":
For everyone else...I'd post the other bands I like, but I think I'm too far off the mark to relate to y'all. I'm talkin' MAGRUDERGRIND, TRAP THEM, DEAFHEAVEN, NOTHING, EAGULLS, SUBURBAN LIVING, etc.
@Speedy67: some good choices of band you've got there! Love Mars Volta/At The Drive In, FNM etc etc. As for DJ Format, Statement of Intent is awesome; have you heard his Psych Out compilation? Well worth a go.
As is the case with most people, my tastes vary wildly. Currently enjoying Mitski, Perfume Genius, MF Doom, Dirty Projectors, Why?, Kiasmos, Julia Holter... I could go on.
