@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN I do plan to watch the Zatoichi movies until they reach a point where the quality suffers (there are, after all, 26 of them, so I wouldn't be surprised if they have diminishing returns after a while), but when I'll get around to it is anyone's guess.
Lone Wolf & Cub is closer at hand, as I already have a line on where to get them. Seeing as I will be borrowing them, I do want to wait until I feel I can commit to watching the entire series in a reasonable timeframe, though, and right now I am busy catching up with a plethora of TV series.
Apart from the ones I mentioned a few posts up, I haven't seen any new movies for a while, so not much to tell there. I was excited to see that a movie I'm looking forward to, She Rides Shotgun supposedly released on VOD recently, but turns out that wasn't true for my neck of the woods. Hopefully soon. Until then, more TV shows
@Matthewnh haha yeah, that would have been pretty impactful. It is a tribute to the quality of the audio on the 4k disc, though, that it still has such an effect. Overall really visceral sound design and it can come out of nowhere, as well as melt your face off in general 😄
I enjoyed it much more all round than I did when I first saw it, too, as I was more focused on the film itself this time.
@Matthewnh@Ravix When I saw the second Dune film in the cinema, some scenes the bass was so heavy it made me feel queasy. I think that has more to do with how poorly the sound is optimised at the cinema, as I've heard other people have similar complaints.
If I ever watch it at home, it will be interesting if I feel the same my setup.

I had an experience like that, when I first went to see Nolan’s “Tenet”.
There is one particular scene, with the offshore wind turbines, and the background music is definitely no longer in the background!
The score for this scene was so incredibly loud as to be disorienting, and almost painful. “Turned up to 11”.
I saw the same film again, about four days later, again at the same cinema, and it was the same during that scene. But I was more prepared for it that time. Watching the film at home is not quite so bad, but again, perhaps the music score is supposed to be distorted and disorienting, as that would fit the strangeness of the film.
Why did I go to the cinema, twice in one week, to see the same film each time? Well..because it demanded a repeat viewing, and “Tenet” makes a little more sense the second time around. Right?
I've decided to watch two more movies in the Zatoichi series than previously planned. They are Zatoichi the Outlaw and Fight, Zatoichi, Fight. Looking forward to them.
After that it will be Zatoichi's Conspiracy and Zatoichi (1989), the concluding films in the series.

Finally tracked down a copy of “Lawrence of Arabia” on 4k.
Preordered just this minute. Coming from the States, and expected to arrive in 4-6 weeks time.
If it actually turns up at all, I shall let you all know. Cautiously optimistic.
But if it does arrive, then I believe that will be it, my 4K movie collection will likely be complete.
@Matthewnh I did that once with one of the Marvel films, as it was the audio descriptive version. I lasted half an hour, before giving up. 😂 Watched it a few days later, without out someone telling you a car door has been closed lol.

The delivery timescale did seem strange to me though, as it isn't listed as a pre-order. I have recently ordered a couple of things from the US, but they are kind of a week/2 max for delivery. And, as it isn't one i'm dead set on picking up (Unless HMV get a restock and i'm tempted, then I might.) I thought, i'll pass on this and let those who really want it get it. Although, I suppose scalpers will still get most of them anyway 🤷♂️
If you look on your order page, @Matthewnh does it still say Sold by amazon etc, or has it changed to "sold by amazon supplied by other" I learned about this recently, and have never had it on the European amazon, but it seems a common thing on US amazon. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to be wary of in case any issues occur down the line, it is best to know the chain of supply.
Haha someone recorded it. It is the throat singing that plays before the movie starts 😂 I hadn't even sat down or adjusted my audio levels and it was set on LOUD! They are great films to watch with the volume cranked, but give us a chance to settle in, Denis!
Okay, going to have to spam the thread with some copy paste now, as an email just popped:
Criterion: Nightmare Alley Pre Orders are live
Description
Noir fatalism has rarely been so alluring as in this vision of the world as a soul-sick carnival of corruption. Putting his own luxuriantly stylized spin on the classic hard-boiled novel by William Lindsay Gresham, master fabulist Guillermo del Toro conjures a sordid, seductive portrait of America on the cusp of World War II. The film follows Stan Carlisle (Bradley Cooper), a roustabout in a traveling sideshow who uses charm and deception to become a phony mentalist preying on the rich and powerful—but at what cost? Brought to life by an all-star cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, and Rooney Mara, and nominated for four Oscars (including Best Picture), Nightmare Alley is a haunting descent into the illusory abyss of the American dream.

Product details page only says “Fulfilled by Amazon US”.
It doesn’t mention any kind of third-party supplier, now that you mention it.
So I take that to be good sign. So i am just going to hope this is legitimate.
@Matthewnh yeah, I don't think it was in the product page. Just something I ordered that was labeled as "sold by amazon/dispatched by amazon" in the order info, like the digital receipt, it alsp has supplied by "other" so i'm waiting to see if that updates to tell me what other means. But it breaks down to, amazon sellong stuff but using a third party supplier for stock. But i'm definitely documenting each stage and keeping an eye on it. As it was definitely "sold by" Amazon I know how to get customer services involved if there are any issues anyway. But as it is something I've only seen on US amazon, thought it worth mentioning. Again 🤞 as that is a long wait. But I suppose if we get a European restock then you could order both and return or sell one if both came. (But not for extortionate prices, because scalpers can suck it, of course)
When it seems you're out of luck.

@Matthewnh@Ravix Thanks for the heads up, guys! The steelbook has been ordered
I have ordered stuff from Amazon that was supplied by a third party before (though not 4Ks) and I've yet to be stiffed, but the quality of the product has varied. I bought a head shaver that's been an excellent shaver, but I've also bought replacement heads from another third party through Amazon and they were completely useless. The return and refund process was smooth, though, but refunds only go towards gift cards, so that is worth keeping in mind. Luckily I spend quite a lot in the Kindle store, so it didn't matter all that much.
I Doubt vouchers would be a worry as I think, at this point, Bezos has me to thank for his swanky lifestyle 😂 aha, nah but one of the reasons I tend to use Amazon a lot is I know I can speak to a customer service agent on chat if something goes wrong with an order and can usually get a good result to make it worth any potential hassle. I've never had to accept vouchers before though, usually replacement, full refund, and sometimes keep the item and get a refund anyway if they can't be arsed to organise shipping themselves.
Yeah, it is a weird one, it isn't a labeled third party seller, so it is being sold by amazon itself, I guess they just use a bunch of suppliers based on what they have in their warehouses and what they can source elsewhere. The USA is f***ing massive, so no idea the way it runs there.
I regret not adding the Kino Lorber Misery 4k to my order, however. But as this was a first experience with US shipping, which could indeed be a total s***show, I limited it to one test order, and then totally bit the hand off Kingdom of Heaven being restocked for like a millisecond while I was on the site 😅 I thought, "eh, worth a shot" even though the plan was just to see how my first order comes in before ordering anything from there again 😬
Fingers crossed for you, as well then. I'll let you both know how it goes with my orders in a week or so, or whenever they arrive. I know how they box items can be very hit and miss. Hope you get your grail 😁
Do you have any idea why it would be such a wide and distant delivery window for the Lawrence orders, btw? Is this part of the standard for US? 2 weeks I get, but 5 seems extreme.
@Ravix Yeah, those delivery times are par for the course with Amazon US, in my experience. I think they ship by paddleboat. That "Kingdom of Heaven" steelbook is a particular sore point for me, as mine was stolen during shipping and no replacement was available. That was from Amazon UK and I got a full refund to my account, so either policy on that differs between UK and US or it differs between returns and "you lost my parcel, you b*strds"
Fans of Adrian Lyne's [b[Jacob's Ladder[/b] will be happy to hear that a 4K restoration is hitting shelves this fall, but also that the restored version will be shown in theatres in the UK and France in October, per StudioCanal.
I'm really hoping Norwegian cinemas will get in on that as well, but I'll settle for the steelbook when it drops.
@FuriousMachine haha, oh no! I didn't know, or forgot/didn't see if you had mentioned that one. That is rough. Someone has liked the look of it and had that, then. (Or it is sitting in a customs office at the bottom of a pile of items that lost their shipping tags)
I have become almost obsessed with getting my hands on that Steelbook, though. Exaggerating of course, although this is basically what I have looked like since realising I wanted it...
I added it to my wishlist on a few amazon's and noticed it came back yesterday, but then it vanished. So I thought, oh well, maybe i'll look into vinted or ebay one day. But when I went to check my order status on US for a different order I thought "one last look" and it was there again and hurled myself at it with little to no thought, at that point 😅 I don't have high confidence. I can imagine it being one that got returned by someone, or something like that (it is listed as new) But we shall see.
If you are interested, France (pathe) have decided to release an absolutely brutal looking one that is up for pre order. It is mostly steel coloured, which I do not really condone.
Also: Is Jacob's Ladder a really brutal and blurred reality kind of movie? I can't think if it is the one i'm thinking of or not, as i've never seen it myself. But I seem to recall my dad once saying it was one of his favourite films, even though he tends to only like things based on a true story or movies that can feasibly happen to real people as he doesn't have an imagination, bless him 😂 but it always surprised me and stuck in my mind, as i'm sure this was a bit of a mindf*** movie so I have no idea why this one in particular got a pass when so many others wouldn't 🤷♂️
@Ravix Nah, the steelbook was the casualty of a thief I'm fairly certain worked for the "last mile" carrier. They deliver to the doorstep, like Amazon does in the US (not sure how they do it elsewhere) and it started when I ordered deodorant and shower gel from a Swedish company. I got a message that it was delivered, but no package on my doorstep. Got a replacement from the company. Then, I ordered the same items a while later, and they were scheduled to be delivered the same day as the "Kingdom..." steelbook. Got the message it was delivered, parcels nowhere to be found. The steelbook couldn't be replaced, but the deodorant and shower replacements were shipped, this time to a pickup point to be safe. That package also vanished, with last tracking entry stating that it was scanned for transport to the pickup point. The replacement for that package arrived safely, and I haven't had any issues with them since (knock on wood).
And yes, Jacob's Ladder is exactly the movie you're describing (and quite brilliant, I might add). While it is indeed an excellent movie, why it would resonate with your father in such a way is certainly a mystery, based on your description of his preferences. Been quite a while since I last saw it, but I warmly recommend it. It is quite a trip
EDIT: As for the French steelbook, I think I'll hold off for a while and see if a stock refresh/reissue happens down the line and if my patience wears out I'll get the boring vanilla release
@FuriousMachine it might be worth checking amazon.com a few times. I was checking my order status' and had a look, and KoH is listed to purchase again, but if I click it it says "doesn't ship to your location". So it seems like complete chance if you can snag one as they keep popping up. But you might get lucky 🤷♂️
Oh yeah, any experience with Rarewaves? I don't quite get what their store is, seems like they are just advanced scalpers, but I don't know. They have stock of various OOS steels at over their RRP, which seems like scalping to me 😅
