@JohnnyShoulder Right, that sucks too. I guess I would be less annoyed if it wasn't for the fact that they continually secure exclusives that I want, which aren't available anywhere else. Never any fun getting shut out.

I finished Zatoichi the Fugitive this morning, and found it to be a fantastic cinematic experience. Great swordplay with a thrilling, enthralling and absolutely captivating storyline to boot.

@FuriousMachine the first four films, including the first two B&W ones are all amazing, and the amount of action drastically escalates as they go on, sequentially, so I would definitely recommend those ones, but I will be sure to post about the remaining three I intend to watch as well, if I do watch them.

@JohnnyShoulder is that Godzilla grafted onto someone's leg? I lose track of all the variations 😁

@FuriousMachine Godzilla E Kong Il Nuovo Impero is still available on Amazon.it btw. Β£11 for the red/yellow Zavvi one Β£16 for the purple-ish one.

@Ravix Yeah, it's very tempting. I've sort of been holding out for a box of all the movies, but I realise that such a thing will probably be out of my price range should it show up, so I should probably pull the trigger on this one individually and pick up the most interesting versions of the rest I can find. (I know there is a box set or two out there, but I'm kind of waiting until the next movie is out, hoping for a steelbook collection then).
I'm very back and forth with this title, as you can tell

JohnnyShoulder

@Ravix It would have to a very large leg or a mini steelbook.

I rewatched The Bourne Identity a few weeks back as it had been quite a few years since I last saw it. Still great with just the minor issue of the silly action bit near the end with the stairwell. Such a quick scene it doesn't affect it too much.
Last night I decided to view Supremacy again. I complete forgot about 'shaky-cam'. The cinematography and editing really spoil this one for me. It's still a good movie but I found the constantly moving camera and choppy editing absolutely insufferable at times. It makes me wonder what might have been with a different Director.
I'll probably still rewatch Ultimatum sometime soon but knowing it's the same Director for that one I'll go in prepared. I can't recall if it's as bad in that one.

@BearsEatBeets Whilst on the subject of silly endings, there is a scene which I won't spoil for people, right at the end of Zatoichi the Fugitive that is quite out of keeping with the previous scenes/overall tone of the movie, and I don't know what newcomers to Japanese cinema in the West would make of it.

Edit: For those who have seen it, it's not really a scene, just more the way they chose to close out the film, people who've seen it, will obviously know which bit I'm referring to.

Edit II: I will add ,though, that I genuinely enjoyed the rest of the movie and overall, I thought it was amazing.

I can see why it's a classic. I appreciate the amount of jokes in there too. Leslie Nielsen is made for this role. But I didn't enjoy much unfortunately. Especially third act with baseball setting just dragged on. Still, I am glad to see what the all fuss was about it. Overall, I still don't want to be harsh on it because even seeing some of the best jokes again and again on the internet for years would diminish the effects of them for sure.
The scene with dicks and boobs was a bit much even for this movie.

This was fun and better than I expected. Liam Neeson fit the role so much and Pamela Anderson is still gorgeous af. Actually I wasn't enjoying much in the first act but from the middle point the movie got better and better. Mission: Impossible parody scene was awesome! I found this more fun than og which is a good accomplishment.

I really really hate it when I watch something praised to the skies and not liking it that much. Sometimes I can see why that thing was praised even though I don't feel like it but other times I simply think that it doesn't deserve it. Sinners is the latter.
It doesn't know what it wants to be. First hour and second hour couldn't be more different than each other. Both of them could be interesting stories on their own and definetely better as a coherent movie too but like this? It feels awkward. I didn't enjoy it and confused even.
Also most hyped up scene with "magical song" was the worst scene. I didn't care at all and it threw me out of the movie.
I really don't see the point of this movie. It would be much better if Ryan Coogler decided to do one or the other. I'm sure that movie would be actually good since I would like to see both hours as different movies.
Great performance by the antagonist.
3/5

Does anyone have weird anomalies when watching 4k, anomalies as in personal experiences wildly varying from review, or disc to disc.

The other night I had Spectre on and thought the grain was not enhancing the details for large chunks of the movie, and it made the presentation look a bit sh*t. But when I put No Time To Die on it looked about 10x better, the grain was there but the detail was far more clear within that grain, and overall it had so much more depth compared to Spectre looking a bit flat.

Both 4k discs are reviewed as being fantastic in terms of technical quality, both were played on the same TV, same player, same Dolby Vision set up, same light conditions (off) and the difference was astounding to me. So much so that i'm questioning why there would be so much variation between the discs, and why my experience feels so far removed from the consensus on Blu-ray.com that both are pretty much one and the same from a technical standpoint.

We're they shot on different film and I just prefer one grain style to another? is there really as big a difference that I felt there was? or am I just mad? 😁

No Time To Die looks absolutely bloody fantastic to me, though. Really excellent depth to the visuals, the grain is there but in no way distracting. Spectre, I don't know, it just seemed like chunky porridge, at times πŸ˜…

@Ravix Hmmmm, that is quite the conundrum you have there. A quick search and all the reviews seem to be postive. When it comes to stuff like this it is normally a dodgy transfer (Batman Begins and The Matrix blu rays) or the way it was shot (Collateral).

The only thing I could think of the it might be a dodgy disc. It is clean with no scratches? Or have you gotton jam all over your discs again?

@JohnnyShoulder syrup, or condensed milk, maybe.

Yeah, I don't know tbh, I usually hold a disc under a bright light before popping it in, just to check it is fine, so I doubt it is dirty. I mean, both movies have grain, I just feel like it was more distracting and muddy and I swear the overall image was less detailed in Spectre somehow. I'll probably pop it on again at some point to double check i'm not just mad. It made NTTD stand out though, as that was exceptionally detailed and deep, and the grain was only noticeable if you tried to see it, most of the time, if that makes sense πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

The only technical difference I noticed on specs was Spectre is a BD66 and NTtD is a BD100 disc. But no idea what film stock each used, tbf.

@Ravix If you scroll down on an IMDB page for each film, it will tell you the tech specs, including what film format was used. πŸ₯Έ

Most of it means nothing to me, but both films used the same film format.

Ravix

@JohnnyShoulder cheers. It may be a matter of the sequence of viewing showing up the differences and making it appear more prominent.

Skyfall was shot all digital because Deakins preferes that in some cases. Spectre was shot on 35mm to recapture a nostalgic look. And No Time to Die was shot on a mix of 65mm/35mm with 65mm being a finer grain with more detail and colour. So i'm not mad, it just stood out in comparison by being sandwiched between a digital shot movie and one that used the more expensive film with finer grain.

I'll have to quickly check them out for reference at some point, and maybe I will see it differently now I know it is intended to be different for each movie πŸ˜…

Just cancelled my pre-order of the Superman 4K, after I found out that WB have recorded a commentary track with James Gunn which will not be available on the physical releases, but instead only with the digital VOD release (along with a gag reel and deleted scenes). WTF, WB?!

Now, I can fully accept that not every release has a commentary track and it is by no means a deal breaker if one simply doesn't exist, but when one is available but actually excluded from the disc release, I feel cheated. I cannot fathom the reasoning behind this, but I understand this isn't the first time bonus materials have been reserved for digital VOD only and kept off the discs (though I have no idea which titles has had this done to them)

EDIT: As far as I can tell, other releases guilty of this are The Batman, Barbie and Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning (Part 1). There are probably more.

@FuriousMachine Wow I find that quite shocking. Admittedly I have no facts to back this up but I'm inclined to think that consumers who are still purchasing physical media like 4K releases are the people must likely to be interested and want those extra features. I would have thought that they would want to maximise those sales. The only explanation I can think of is they will try and sell a more complete, special version later on and hope people 'double-dip' for the better version.
