@Werehog yeah I left my PS5 untouched through the heatwave as well so when I finally booted up I was expecting the ad thing but also didn't get it.
Unlike yourself though, I will be picking it up at some point. Not that I want to see it shoved in our faces all the time so at least that 'feature' didn't last long. Best of luck avoiding it, let's hope they don't try harder down the line.
I just did the latest update with faint hope it might include a fix for the missing games issue but no, still missing.

@BearsEatBeets Heh. It's the little victories.

In all seriousness, and irrespective of my own opinion, I hope you enjoy the game as and when, and that it lives up to whatever level of hype you're building for it.

And if I see any of my missing games magically return to my profile, I'll let you know!

@Werehog Cheers, and I totally get everyone who isn't interested in the slightest. I'd be way more hyped for a new Read Dead over GTA but Rockstar do build some amazing worlds/games. The main issue with the GTA games is you basically play as unlikeable characters by design as you're playing a crime simulator at the end of the day. I'd love for them to try something new after GTA VI, something where you aren't someone designed to be on the wrong side of law and order.

I'll do the same if I notice a fix. πŸ‘

@Werehog Quite good thank you, I'm not doing much gaming at the moment just tending to my horses in the country side and catching up with my puppy. I travel too much and he deserves stability so he's a country boy. I should be in the Middle East but my nerves say otherwise, I love the region, the people, the culture that is often miss-understood by Westerners. I just can't get past the last something mentally so I suppose I'm on a time-out until things calm down. I spent a week up in the Scottish Highlands recently too, mostly so my Partner could do 'Man stuff', hunting, fishing, this kind of thing. There's nothing up there except perhaps @MightyDemon82 (I think you said you live up there, and the snow meant you couldn't get to a store for supplies like milk) I do like the quiet and mostly caught up on the forum and music. I probably said it already but I don't game much in the Summer, though I did just buy a bunch of Indies again. It's more to support those studios and grow my rainy day library.

I can't remember most of the names but there was, Cats in Boxes, Bear and Breakfast (my 3rd copy, it's wonderful and the Developer deserves the love) some kind of Prepper game, it looks 2D and really unique, a game I saw on here called Tactics Ogre and it looks like a Disgea game I played (which was fantastic) a third copy of Unicorn Overlord because again the Developer deserves the love on all platforms, another Jesus game because Sony removed the last one right after I bought it and I appreciate some jank, a bunch of other Indies. I don't know when I'll ever get to any of them because Rimworld is life and forever games will never not be my thing.

I'm not sure if I want to support Sony studio developed games anymore, not with them dealing such a blow to something I love. Preservation and ownership are really important to me. Physical is the main reason people in restricted regions get to access and experience games the way they are meant to be played. Even my own home country has banned, restricted or censored games it didn't agree with, physical was the answer for so many people. I know for you physical and those statues and models you have are a passion, it's something you can put your money into and see (daily?) they are an extension of you as a person, of your interests. No one sees mine, no one asks 'Kat what is this game?', I collect for myself and bunker them away for preservation, there's some kind of feeling connected to it that does brighten up my day and it's not some kind of out of control capitalist consumerism. Are you going to join the above Grand Theft Auto conversation? or is the upcoming one not your thing? I still have to read the more recent additions but in a nutshell it looks like being a cowboy made Ravix a true gamer and Th3solution might not have played Grand Theft Auto 4, which is kind of shocking. I thought every gamer did.

@Werehog I've got a slight change in the missing game info and it's not good. Before when I hovered over the game tile for the PS4 version of The Witcher 3 it still showed the playtime (480ish hours) despite the game missing from the list. I've just gone on my PS5 and that gametime has now disappeared. I loaded up the game for a few minutes then closed it down. The gametime is back but wiped clean and only showing 0 minutes when I left it on for at least a few minutes.

So it might no longer just be a case of being hidden but actually deleted. And possibly without even counting if played again.

In the grand scheme of things it's not that important but I liked having these stats and some of my favourite games it would seem have been wiped from my gaming history. Shame.

@BearsEatBeets i saw you mentioned about playing as unlikeable characters into crime and stuff; niko was a great character, albeit complex and still a criminal πŸ˜…

but if i remember, he actually wanted to stop doing crime and didn’t take any joy in doing it

nomither6

BearsEatBeets

@nomither6 oh okay. It's so long ago I barely remember any of it, apart from going bowling with his cousin. I think I didn't actually finish it, I vaguely remember one mission giving me a ton of issues so I think I just stopped as I couldn't progress.

To be fair Michael in 5 is trying to leave it all in his past and I always played him that way. Outside of missions I only did crazy stuff with Trevor as it most fitted his character and even then generally for trophies and stuff.

It's why I never believed rumours Jason was going to be an undercover cop. It's too logically jarring to have a playable character be a cop and also give you the freedom to go about doing mass crime/murder in the open world.

@BearsEatBeets I'm not sure if this is related to your playtime issue, but I just read earlier today somewhere that apparently games that you played through a physical copy are no longer showing up? Only games you played through physical means that you then bought digital content for like DLC or microtransactions remained for the people who said they were affected in this particular way. I can't cross-check whether it's true, but I saw some chatter about it online.

Tjuz

BearsEatBeets

@Tjuz The 3 that I have noticed (there could be more) were all physical PS4 disc games. I did notice other PS4 disc games still there though. And of the 3, Mass Effect Legendary & RDR are purely the original game but The Witcher 3 I did buy the 2 expansions for digitally. So I can't find any commonality at all.

@GirlVersusGame ripe πŸ˜… I know what you mean, though. I watched an old dude play RDR2 as his first game on youtube and it was quite joyous to see this new generation of gamers bloom. But i'm not a part of that, i've always been a casual gamer, on and off, and Rockstar have always made games I will play, but RDR2 was at a level of detail and quality where I thought either: "that's that, no more games required, i've basically competed gaming" or to branch out into other genres that I like in other media and find something else that I have clearly missed out on and that evokes the same kind of enjoyment and feeling in a different way (gameplay, mechanics etc) The Witcher, KCD (my first fantasy and medieval/historical fiction games, I suppose) and I've tried many more types of games since changing the way I approach my own gaming. Uncharted 4 was another before RDR2 that made me think, "oh wow, i've actually missed out on quite a lot of games"

Like... in cinema I love Sci-Fi but I never really played many sci-fi games, I can't even think what the first would have been that I played more than a quick demo of? Star Wars Jedi? I suppose it is why I always played Quantic Dream games like Heavy Rain and Detroit, they were an obvious extension of cinema, same as rockstar in a different way. But i'd watch people play final fantasy and i'd just be clueless - blank faced - what even is that? Happy enough that people like it and I could appreciate that they did, but not really a part of it in any real way. I was very much a game watcher, too, i'd let people just play games and be content not playing them, but now i'd rather also play them and I am far better at them, now, as well. My first RPG in reality was probably Alpha Protocol, but I just played it because it was espionage, and continued on not really being that much of a gamer rather than seek out more RPGs of a different type. RPG probably wasn't even in my vocabulary.

In a way, based on your descriptions, I think we see GTA the same way, albeit for different reasons, while the vast majority will see it as something else entirely (a way to do more crazy stuff they couldn't really do irl, probably some levels of stress relief, or just because 'it's fun and guns, init')

I'm still very much like: This cinema tastes delicious in my video game
Untitled for stuff like GTA, which is why GTA IV is my favourite, including a favourite trope of outsider in a new city/country just trying to get by.

But I do also like to just chill and do silly sh**, too 😁 and playing with the mechanics to see what can be achieved beyond the expected is a new favourite past time. Like pushing the game design to see what happens or just doing what I want. You know this, you collect cheeses, for example (just because you can?) It is your own player agency that lets you decide to do this and whether a game can handle it or not is their problem.

As for the call of the manly wild, who knows, RDR is just a big old western, and fits into historical fiction as a bonus. I do have a natural draw to "the old days" before our addiction to browsing the internet on our phones (😬) but my desire to go wild camping increased 10 fold around the time of playing RDR2, it has to be said πŸ˜…

Ooh, you also said you played all the GTA games in just a couple of weeks, and I wanted to work out how best to ask... "how?" Without being offensive or intrusive. Seeing the screenshot of 9000 hours of Minecraft is what reminded me, and also scared me a little, if i'm honest 😭

I've discovered 2 more games that don't appear in my played lists.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition (PS4)
Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4)

I even re-installed the former to test (plus I thought about replaying soon). I started it up and played the first 10 minutes, checked the app and it showed I was playing it. As soon as I shut it down it was no-where to be seen on played lists.

So that's up to 5 games so far for me. Anyone else missing anything?

@BearsEatBeets I’d make a crack about how having undercover cops doing crime sprees and killing civilians would be fitting for a game set in a pastiche of the States but I’m not convinced we even have the moral high ground in the UK given the whole spycops scandal that’s just never been resolved.

@BearsEatBeets So you made me curious and because I had a before and after, I'd just taken a screenshot of my profile hours before that bug happened, the before and after I shared on here. So yes you made me curious so I checked and I thought 'This is a Bear thing, there's no way I'm missing games', oh but was I wrong. I did the count and I'm missing thirty-five games, what they are? No idea but having the before and after was the only way I'd even notice any missing in the first place. What does it even mean? No idea, how do I get them back? perhaps never? How did you notice you were missing games?

Untitled

I haven't been gaming so that number is accurate in difference. None of the recent ones seem changed? I see Rimworld, Soulstone Survivors and Vampyre Survivors as the top three for recent.

@GirlVersusGame I first noticed because one of my most played and favourite games disappeared. I noticed a few more yesterday and talking with Werehog.
These games are all physical PS4 games (that I have noticed so far) so I still have and can play the games but the system will not register it happens anymore and previous playtimes are gone.

I decided to check my whole shelf of physical PS4 games to see how far spread it is. As it stands the following list of games are all missing.

The Witcher 3
Read Dead Redemption
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Mass Effect Andromeda
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Fallout 4
Spider-Man
Infamous Second Son
No Mans Sky
Steep (but does show I played demo)
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
GT Sport (again shows only demo)
MGS Ground Zeroes
Death Stranding
Horizon Zero Dawn
Uncharted Lost Legacy
Alien Isolation
The Order 1886
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
South Park Fractured but Whole
AC Unity
AC Syndicate
The Last Guardian
Yakuza Zero
The Wolf Among Us
Concrete Genie
Call of Duty Infinite Warfare

It works out about half my physical collection. Not sure why the other half is fine.

I also found one PS5 disc missing

Guardians of the Galaxy

because I reversed the sleeve on it and forgot it was a PS5 disc.

Can anyone who owns these games as PS4 discs see if they can see them in their played lists?

@BearsEatBeets are Sony literally stealing physical games out of the past now? Does their evil know no bounds πŸ˜±πŸ˜›

Jokes aside (people don't seem to like those) Do you think they are kind of trying to separate physical and digital ownership in their databases for some kind of future implementation of a separate feed or some kind of in-system functionality? And this is perhaps a bug based on them doing internal tweaks to the UI? I imagine a list of phsycial and digital owned games would help at a user level more-so than the padlock icon or whatever that pops up if you hover over a disc game without the disc in. Especially when it becomes less of a choice - it would help to know which games are non-digital in your collection in case you need to follow a digital upgrade path for those games on PS6, for example.

@BearsEatBeets I'm not at the moment where my games are located, out of the country, and there are hundreds of physical PS4 discs in my collection so I wouldn't know where to start. However if I check your list and run it by my memory (famous last words) I can see which PS4 ones of that list I too have.

The Witcher 3
Read Dead Redemption
Tomb Raider Definitive Edition (missing)
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Fallout 4 (day one collectors set, if it matters)
Spider-Man
Infamous Second Son (yes but it's a review copy for journalists)
No Mans Sky (day one collectors set, if it matters)
GT Sport (yes but it's a review copy for journalists)
MGS Ground Zeroes
Death Stranding
Horizon Zero Dawn
Alien Isolation
The Order 1886
Yakuza Zero
Concrete Genie

And now we see if those are missing (checking profile) Straight away I'm seeing Fallout 4, both Witcher 3's, Death Stranding, No Man's Sky, Ground Zeroes, no Tomb Raider, I see Red Dead Redemption 2. So in summation I have no idea what thirty-five are missing. I have three accounts though, Tomb Raider is definitely missing but I only played for one-hour. She died really brutally in a river and I tapped out. It's an odd bug, perhaps it's a licensing issue.

Edit: If there are physical PS5 games missing I definitely don't know, I only started mixing physical with digital once I started playing PS5 games, I haven't started to catalogue them yet either. I'm just glad trophies aren't affected, if I was missing thirty-five platinums that wouldn't be fun. It's not fun if you use your profile to track your games either I imagine but at least you can cross reference them with your trophies/progress and that should offer more clues.
