Although on second thoughts 10 seconds is a bit rough. Usually it’s 5 seconds for going off track and gaining an advantage, or speeding in the pit lane, 10 seconds is usually for more major things like causing a collision.

Pretty amazing no one else has got a penalty. Doubly rough for Lewis.

@themightyant yeah all seems a bit harsh on Lewis. His team screwed him by not noticing he had gained some time when he went off. If he backed off a bit he might not have got anything, or the lesser 5 seconds at worst.

I’d need to see the first lap stuff again as it’s hard to tell who gained/lost with them 4 wide.

@BearsEatBeets agree team should have notified Lewis. Although he’s experienced enough to have realised this himself, should have immediately slowed to allow the others back within DRS. Definitely a penalty but 10 secs is harsh.

As for other incidents I was mostly thinking more of the dive bomb from Max that led to him driving into Lewis. That seemed more clear cut. But would need to see it and other incidents again.

Really enjoying this one. Some fun radio talk as well.
I really hope Bearman can hold on to that podium spot.

@themightyant so much happened in those first few laps I will definitely need to rewatch but I think the stewards are all done with it.

Max and Oscar are going to be fuming about that VSC.
Best race of the season. Well done Ollie

Strongly disagree with the stewards here. Max CLEARLY crashed into Lewis. He’s not in control of his car. Why no penalty? Max is ahead only because he crashed into Lewis so has to give the place back, therefore Lewis didn’t gain a place. He STILL gained an advantage in terms of time and should have slowed, but the rest is BS. Should have been 5 secs AND a penalty for Max.

@themightyant Watching Karun explain it all I agree Max has got away with one there. Even if you allow the the nudge for the first overtake move, he then cuts the grass skipping turn 3 when Lewis came back alongside at turn 2. He then outbreaked himself and didn't make the next corner forcing Lewis to go off which lead to Lewis' only flaw off gaining a bit too much time.

Also think Charles was very lucky to not be penalised for staying ahead of Lewis after going off and skipping turn 2. Lewis was ahead at the apex of turn one and stayed on track and lost out there too.

I'd never want to be a steward to try and figure out to make it all fair though.

Also yes Max had Charles without the VSC but Ollie might have held out as the McLaren isn't the best at overtaking with straight line speed. In fairness to Max he took that on the chin as something that happens.

@BearsEatBeets indeed. Much like max said, you win some you lose some.

Great race in spite of a few iffy decisions. More like this hopefully.

A tad late to the discussion but what a result for Bearman and Haas. It would been fantastic if he could've somehow got on the podium, but P4 is a great result for them regardless!

Q2 should be pretty exciting. Margins are pretty close and Ferrari are massively off the pace could struggle. I suspect we might have a few surprises in the top few rows.

Looks like well probably lose a Farrari in q2. Probably Charles.... what a wreck they've given the drivers this year.

Titntin

BearsEatBeets

Yeah when it's this close one mistake could be costly for position. Some quick times from unlikely places so far as well.

EDIT: Not sure if Hamilton was on a better lap but his teammate possibly screwed him there.

Of course if you prefer charles to go through, you can send Lewis out with not enough time for the flying lap..... Whats going on at Farrari?

Pretty sure the stewards will have something to say about that double yellow, didnt sound like Lewis slowed for it to me!
.....and Verstappan is nowhere, really unexpected!

@Titntin Yeah both of Lando's time good enough for Pole. I'm hoping the Aston (and a lot of teams) are competitive next year, I'd love to see Fernando pick up a few more wins.

Looking forward to tomorrow/Sunday, Brazil rarely disappoints. I just hope any rain that occurs is the 'mix it up' type and not 'red flag' type.

@BearsEatBeets Yeah, we want enough slippery stuff to mix it up for some fun racing please 😃

@Elfuggingjefe Rule Changes are always quite exciting, you never quite know who will be on top and the whole grid can be shuffled. There’s also potential for more overtakes / closer racing, which is often the intent, though this rarely happens as planned.

On the flip side usually someone has found a way to get a leg up and dominate the rest of the pack which spreads the field out until they start to close up again in subsequent years. We currently have fights for the championship and further down the grid and see top teams missing out on Q3, Q2 etc. so this may be a step back initially.

So I go into next year both with excitement and trepidation, crossing my fingers that whatever plans they have made pay off for fans and that no pie is miles ahead.

But like you I would love to see Alonso competing, I have a soft spot for him now, he’s a great driver, that like many has matured and mellowed over the years making him more likeable. Fingers crossed.

@Elfuggingjefe Vettel it a legend on and off the track. There was a lovely video of him and Lewis this weekend, where Seb is pushing his environmental causes, great to see such a rivalry blossom into a longstanding friendship. Mad respect for Seb.

Yes it's great to see Max mature, though I suspect if he was in a car that wasn't at the front we would see some of his bad side come back. We still get flashes of it, usually aimed at George Russell. Lol

@themightyant If we could like these posts Id try and like this ten times! I saw this this morning and loved it. It bugs me that when people discuss the best f1 drivers, no one ever seems to consider Seb for the list, but he is a tripple world champ.
I also believe that Max still often drives too aggressively and gets too hot headed when its not going his way. But I have to respect his ability to drive to the ragged edge of the rules and produce special performances..
