Since communities are gone , Facebook removed , and no discord support.

Depends on what you consider social. I'd say being able to party chat with your friends whilst playing online games pretty darn social but then, heck, I'd call PSN Messages social.

@nomither6 I’m not bothered about the stuff you mentioned, but I like seeing what my friends are doing on PlayStation, so I’m disappointed that the PlayStation 5 got rid of the ‘What’s New’ section. I’ve also been gaming on my PS3 recently and I don’t like how cut off it feels from the PS4 and 5... Although it’s probably for the best that my friends can’t see me playing Sonic the Hedgehog.

@Bentleyma- damn , they got rid of that too ? that's a real shame. One thing I miss instantly when i go back to play old consoles is the social integration and features of newer consoles. A good example is what you mentioned about the PS3 basically being on its own network and not connected to the 4/5 .

@RogerRoger What I mean is not ''barebones'' and/or ''outdated'' . Party chat is so 2006 , lol. Especially since a lot of people use Discord now.

@nomither6 Well, I see where you're coming from, but I still think PlayStation is "social" enough. If I may, I think you mean to ask whether PlayStation will ever integrate itself with social media again, or whether they'll provide their own bespoke alternative.

Which remains to be seen, given how the PS5's user interface is in its infancy. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it took a couple years for Communities to be added to the PS4's menu.

With covid going on, the bigger question is: when will I ever be social again?

To be honest I think they took communities away to revamp it as it was pretty barebones, we'll probably see it return at some capacity within a year. Or not, maybe Sony just doesn't see any value in the feature.

Currently Playing:

Rainbow 6: Siege, Kingdom Hearts 2 (1st time), Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

@nomither6 I dunno why Sony took away the ability to see what PS3 games people are playing. I’m pretty sure PS3 users don’t even appear online anymore and they can’t see when PS4 and PS5 users are online either. I like looking through my friends list and seeing what games people are playing. You can’t even see what PS3 games people have played recently on the app...

At least you can still view PS3 trophies...

it was because it was difficult to moderate. a lot of communities were messy , and i've heard some private communities had some illegal things going on .

@Voltan Interesting, I honestly thought Microsoft would get there instead.

@nessisonett I mean, I don't think this means they can't also do it... they do have their own platforms though.

Yeah. I think so, given that recent news report that it is now partnering with Discord — known as the popular digital communication service. Although the details are still vague since the plan is for next year, the CEO said that starting early next year, the aim is to merge the Discord and PlayStation interactions on console and smartphone, encouraging families, clubs, and communities to hang out, have fun, and connect more effectively when playing games together. Who knows if Discord servers will cross over or whether Discord x PlayStation will be a walled garden, and there's plenty of time for both PlayStation and Discord to detail.
