Does this not look off to everyone compared to every normal game release ever? Single Player Free Roam? and access to "2 Combat Missions"? 2?!

Are they really daring to release a game with 2 missions, or am I misunderstanding this text? 🙃

And then there's Everywhere which is the game and creation suite that MindsEye was intended to be a part of. And the Mindeye part was once described as "a premium experience set entirely within the free-to-play Everywhere platform." And yet it is MindsEye that is being released as a full price regular game, and Everywhere that is rumoured to be up a certain creek without a certain boating implement to hand 🤷‍♂️

I guess this can serve as a warning to be very carefully before paying for this game without actually finding out what the heck it really is first.

Of course, it could still turn out interesting with the user creation element and all of that being added, but be wary, be very wary if you're hoping to be an early adopter, perhaps one expecting a GTA/CyberPunk/WatchDogs type game, with a fully fleshed out story mode, in case it is literally a bare bones city with the promise of some content over the next 10 years and a few cutscenes to start you off.

The wording seems very peculiar on this release information. But it would explain why the trailers are showing the same chase and shoot footage over and over.

(Oh, and of course, I must mention that I was paid to have these legitimate concerns about this game, I must qualify that now. This is in no way my own brain forming questions because my own eyes are not quite liking what they are seeing right now, no, no, no. It's definitely some company paying me to raise these concerns on our little gaming forum community) 🙃

@Ravix yes I agree something seems off with this and at £55 I think it is, a lot of people stand to be disappointed.

MatthewJP

Ravix

@MatthewJP I mean, it might be a normal game too, maybe? Haha. But on ps store and this press release there's no mention of a story campaign existing. Which definitely makes it seem weird 😬

@Ravix There's definitely something off about this game. I'm getting The Day Before vibes all over the place.

Everyone seems to be getting the same vibe that something just isn't right with this game. As a big fan of shooters, I want to play it, but it certainly isn't looking right. The vibe I get from it is that it looks like the kind of game that gets announced at E3 2007 and then doesn't get cancelled, but is just never heard from again. Release seems to be imminent though. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a solid 6/10

I just watched the six minute walk through, and you are so right. I can't work out what makes one walkthrough feel real and one walkthrough feel fake, its just like a feel or intuition, and I felt it in Day Before, and I felt it here. I think it is something about just how scripted the "gameplay" sections feel in both cases, there is something stiff about it that doesn't make it feel like real gameplay.

Life to the living, death to the dead.

ExoZeo

I just watched the gameplay again and I noticed something that just isn't right. The game is a cover shooter (apparently) and at one point in the demo the main character is just slowly walking through the line of fire, shooting at enemies without any concern for safety and with no sense of urgency. It's almost like nothing matters and he could just be a ghost floating through this dream like sequence. What a bizarre reveal.

ExoZeo

Ravix

@ExoZeo that specific element is perhaps due to the hearsay that in the "hands-off" developer footage that some people got to preview they had enabled god-mode. I don't really know why though, if people aren't going to play the game that way, how does walking through bullets without flinching make a game more appealing to people watching.

Everything is so weird about the release.

Latest story I saw was, the man himself, Leslie Benzies (I'm using 'the man himself' as his involvement seems to be the one thing people are hoping make for a game good) was telling people the game is 20 hours, all killer, no filler, no pointless side activities etc.

And yet the poster about the game I've posted on this thread at the top suggests most of the game is side content with races and "missions" and it's going to let people create filler, and the missions are either "combat" or or "horde" which makes it sound like it's 99% filler 🤷‍♂️

I can't wait for PushSquare to get the review codes, if they even send any out, so we can finally find out from a legit source what the game actually is

@Ravix Absolutely. Everything on that list sounds like additional filter content but I get the impression that's the entire game. I'll be fascinated to see reviews of this game. Sometimes I can tell when a game isn't really for me, but there could still be a feeling that it'll be better than expected. This one though... I would be shocked if reviews were any more than "it's kinda okay I guess"

"Studio execs leave a week before release" just popped up on my feed

The CFO and the cheif legal officer have left, to be more specific.

Legal and financial noping out a week before release. Everything must be expected to go smoothly, then 😬

I really wish gaming had its own properly well established version of investigative journalism, some of these companies... damn 😅

You read things from various people, and you think, that needs genuinely investigating. But it always seems to remain in the hearsay category.

But I hear it, and I'm saying this... maybe don't pre order this game or expect it to last more than a few months 😬

And then there's the public stuff... like the guy saying there's a paid campaign against them. The legal and financial officers leaving, and then this...

"Resolutions
Reduction of the company's share premium account by £233,229,993 from £233,229,993 to £0.00 and the amount by which the share premium account is so reduced be credited to the company's distributable reserves 20/12/2024"

And why would a company reduce its share premium account to nothing? So it allows them to distribure the funds to shareholders

😬😬😬

At the end of the day, I'm still wondering if the game will be a regular game on release, or the empty creation tools with a few missions slapped on, as the marketing has been all over the shop. But here's some Benzies comments about the game:

"once you've played the big overarching ten-year plan, you'll have a very good idea of what this universe looks like"

well sh**, okay then. Only 10 years to get a "very good idea" of what you're playing 😬😬😬

"MindsEye sits bang in the middle of our story. So, we're going to go back 10,000 years, then we're going to go forward a certain amount of time. It's the relevant piece of the puzzle that will have players asking questions of what the bigger story is.

We've intentionally not released footage of huge parts of the game, because we don't want to spoil anything for players. But this story does take some unusual twists."

This bit I like more. But again, is it true, or subterfuge 🤷‍♂️

"we do have plans next year to launch an open world multiplayer game that takes place a year after MindsEye finishes. In the interim, we also have an open world free roam game that spans from when MindsEye finishes to the launch of the open world multiplayer game."

Ehhhhh? Totally lost me again 😅

"So you've got the MindsEye campaign, and yes, it'll be about 20ish hours. But you do have all this other side content: there's going to be this continuous stream of content."

A genuine reference to the campaign that's been missing from the actual store page and that "single player free roam" roadmap image 🤲🤲🤲

"On the MindsEye.Play [continuous content] part of it, yeah, maybe we should've got that out there sooner, but it is a nice little surprise to give players."

So, mindseye.play is different to Mindseye the game, and mindseye the open world, and mindseye the creation tool (Everywhere?) But it's still very much clear as mud.

I watched MrMattyPlay's preview for it and when he mentioned that the developers had to turn on god mode to beat two of the missions that were shown, I let out a big audible yikes. Few weeks before the game comes out and you need to cheat to play your own game? Does not sound like a sound investment from a consumer point of view.

@Jimmer-jammer or is it 🤔😛

I can't wait for the reviews. But I have long since abandoned hope. Any positive is going to seem pretty big now 😅

@Jimmer-jammer the classic: take all the money out of the company for the shareholders and then release an absolute banger that makes billions despite noone really knowing what the game is manoeuvre

It's a Classic

@Hapless I imagine it will be why the chief of legal left. It appears as if there has been some legal issues raised in Japan that he couldn't be f***ed dealing with

I'm a bit concerned that so many have have ordered on UK PS store. It's literally the number 1 pre order right now 😬

Curious if the game will follow what happened to Cyberpunk and get delisted from the store. Surely Sony would know the quality of the game before it gets released onto their store.

Xayias

Ravix

@Xayias guess if it starts to happen in more regions we will know it's because it's a broken mess. But I imagine they would just promise the day one patch is really very good. So it's weird it's gone from Japan pre release.

I think Cyberpunk vanished a while after release when everyone realised it barely functioned without crashing and was bug ridden 🤷‍♂️

@Hapless damn, is it really tomorrow 😬

I keep thinking "I hope it's good" but my eyes and brain are telling me it won't be, even without all the mad goings on at the company itself; within the actual game, every time they show cars driving there's a literal rectangle or rhombus of dark shadow trailing the car, up to the edges of the screen where the game is barely stitched together. It's like an asset is just pasted in and it has broken the lighting as it doesn't work in unison like a normal game would. It's giving me Saints Row reboot vibes, where the studio just didn't get enough time, money or expertise to make a proper game, so it's just a mess and gets put out to fend for itself before they shut up shop.

If the "20 hour" "campaign" is actually decent it may be worth playing one day, but I know I have no interest in a game that takes 10 years to get drip fed all of the story, especially if it's technically not good, so I might just have to skip it and miss out on all that 😅

Did it launch? And is anyone playing it? As we don't have any reviews we must rely on those that took the gamble on it
