After a recent "accident" with my PS5 I was forced to finally take the plates off and clean the damn thing out which luckily worked a charm. But since doing so I'm now thinking well if the plates come off that easily I can replace them as never liked the white standard ones. But I'm torn between which new ones to get as youtube doesn't really help. I wanted the midnight black that was my first choice but those are sold out on the Direct store. Then I thought the camo but maybe a bit too obvious. I even considered the nova pink as they had an eighties vibe but could be a bit too colourful for the gaming room. Anyone got any of these and happy with their purchase?
@Jammer I haven’t yet but I’m just about to order some actually. I’m gonna be moving my launch day PS5 into my lounge after Christmas and the missus wasn’t really feeling the idea, as she didn’t think it would fit the vibe. Our side-tables, lamps and tv unit are a set and all walnut. So I randomly looked to see if there were plates that would match and found a few options, the best of which being the eXtremeRate eX cover in wood grain. She loved it, so the move to the lounge is still on.
This subsequently sent me down a rabbit hole though… and I’m now looking at plates for my Pro. I’m currently split between the ElitePlay 30th Anniversary Grey or the ElitePlay Black. They both look pretty sexy tbh.
@Matthewnh They aren't the official ones though at least not that I can see. The midnight black Sony ones once I got past the camo urge looked godlike had PS2/PS4 vibes really make the PS5 actually look decent. I never liked the look of the PS5 originally and hid it under a desk then spilt er, wine on it, then cleaned it and saw the new plates available and thought woah. If my base PS5 had become wine toast however I'd have gone for the black detail GOY slim as couldn't justify a pro.
@graymamba Those exCovers are good but I've got this almost OCD thing about having to have official Sony product not sure why maybe because I dodged a bullet by the PS5 not dying after the vino incident.
I got the midnight black plates about a year ago... might even been on black Friday. They look sweet and goes well with my other black AV stuff I have on my cabinet.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@Jammer that’s fair mate… and I have similar concerns if I’m honest. Both PlayStations won’t be confined to any unit/cabinet though, so will get well aired and not as much scope to trap dust. 🤞
@JohnnyShoulder The black is a good all rounder probably why they are currently unavailable after this year's black friday deals. Got to be the most popular damn wish I'd picked 'em up sooner but no way am I paying 3 times the price off scalpers on eBay!
@graymamba Got to say the PS5 is robust can't believe mine survived the vino "accident". Really endeared me to this gen and the last year of decent games being released. When I first got mine a couple of years back long after initial release I wasn't that impressed but these last few months even ignoring the new possible plates aesthetic am loving the machine.
@Jammer yeah, I don’t really get all the hubbub over this gen being terrible tbh. Yes the first party stuff has been severely impacted by the Live Service pivot (which actually does irk me tbh) but all things considered (second and third party offerings) I don’t think theres ever been so many games… I’m bloody drowning in them!
@JohnnyShoulder I think that and the fact the brighter colors are like an eye magnet wherever they are in the room means it's either the midnight black or camo. Just wish they'd get the black ones back in stock on the official store. I'll leave it till I get doshed up next week then if they aren't back in stock get the camo ones.
