Topic: Hades.

Athena dash and Hermes extra dashes are your friend. You’ll be wanting them for almost every single scenario in the game.

Really glad I waited until PS5 to play this game. I love the game's music, the game has amazing graphics and just controls so well.

It's a very different game from Returnal, but I don't think Hades is vetter or worse. It's just got a completely different interprets of the genre. I think both of them in their own way have elevated the genre as a whole.

I do think there's less to talk about with Hades than their is with Returnal. I really love my time with Hades, but the game is way more clear, and their is of course a very clear progression to the game, which makes it less... enigmatic? I guess that's the right word.

I love the different gods and how they're responding to each situation. I'm with some here that the voice work isn't amazing, so often I just read the dialogue and skip the talking itself.

I loved the dash with push that I had my last run. I was able to circle all enemies, group them together and then use my bow and arrow to make double shots. Easy peasy!

@Voltan Crikey mate that’s good. I got to the third area but didn’t get too far in before I got hit with a room full of crazy.

I’ve left it there for tonight but I think I’m now on 20 runs.

Also yeah, forget what I said earlier about not being sure if the game gives you motivation to do it again. It definitely does.

@Voltan I didn’t really want to fully spoil it but yeah, the game’s only just starting to open up for you 😂

Hades vs Returnal is going to be a comparison we’re going to see a lot, since they’re the two high profile “narrative driven rougelites” (I made this up but I think it’s the quickest way to describe what they have in common) available on consoles now.
Personally I think it’s awesome how they’re taking pretty much opposite directions in some design choices. Good stuff!

@DertieBertie Have you tried Dead Cells if you enjoyed both those games?

It’s pixel art style which isn’t to everyone’s taste but is another great game that’s certainly closer to Hades than Returnal (although I haven’t played the former yet).

Almost escaped again in the next run, killed by the final boss this time.

Yup. I really love how much there is to do in this game. Just slowly making progress. Reaching Elysium was easy, in my fifth run or so, but have been stuck there since. Now I'm just collecting the nectar to raise everyone's friend level.

Aaand on the next one I have a pretty OP weapon and it’s looking gooood so far

Well I’ve got into level 3 again and left it there for now. I’m on about 19 attempts now so definitely not going well but it’s still fun if not a little infuriating. Lots of respect to anyone managing to escape 😂

@DertieBertie Nice work. I might tap you up on some tips soon if I'm still not getting anywhere this week. Can't wait to see any ending, let alone the true one!

I racked up four clears in a row over the weekend, but I died to the final boss last night and killed my win streak. Was using the sword and got a Daedalus upgrade that sounded good but in practice kind of ruined the run. Instead of the three-hit standard attack, I had an overhead strike that deals 90 base damage, but it's kinda slow. I ended up with a sort of glass cannon build, with powerful attacks but not much health. Oh well!

Cracking game, this.
