I have noticed on the PS5 games that when there is an update I can't bypass it like I could on PS4 games. I think the PS5 lacks to be offline friendly and should be improved. I just loved that feature because it was so convenient and now Xbox does a better job of offline gaming and yet they tell us to just disconnect from the Internet? Well if they would let us bypass updates that wouldn't be said now would it?
@keetguy "Xbox does a better job of offline gaming" this is just ... I can't even. The last GOOD Xbox console that is offline friendly is the 360!
PS4, PS5 and the Switch ARE offline friendly!
I play my games just from the disc build until they are done and then I might update if there is a DLC. That is how I played Spider-Man 2, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree edition (the 1.10 version is ON the disc!), Mortal Kombat 1 and RE8 Village.
If I am connected to the internet the updates start automatically, YES this is just plain stupid, but you could just cancel them manually and go back offline by using the settings button.
Trust me I am ALL about offline gaming!

@Yousef- I saw the Xbox offline mode for the series s from a friend and they said it let them play games even if they had a update for it. I mean it's true about the PS4 being the last fully good offline console and can't agree enough about that.
@Yousef-@keetguy Hmmm for me the PS5 acts identical to the PS4 in terms of updates. If I am connected both consoles will try to update my games. It is up to me to stop them.
Even with the Automatic updates turned off the console will try to update the games. It is really dumb.
And what is the difference between using the Xbox Offline button and the PS4/PS5 switch network button?

Auto anything is fine, but also allow the option to disable auto anything. When I insert a disc in my PS3 I am notified an up date is available, I press O to decline or X to accept, and that's it, no drama.
With my PS4 any update auto downloads and I can not end that download until after the game loads, sometimes. Sometimes because I have had where I went to the home screen to stop the update to then find later that it downloaded during game play when an on screen message informs me the update has been completed and installed. That occured 2 or 3 times with The Handsome Jack Collection, and also with Borderlands 3 and Far Cry 6. Also if I decline an update quit and remove the disc it will start to download that declined update the next time I insert any game disc. Fortunately that nonsense ends after only the next disc of a different game is inserted.
Now I just avoid the nonsence by disconnecting from the internet with games I don't want to update.
Why is Sony attempting to force game updates that some do not want? Even with system firmware updates there are options to download if and when we want, and then still press a button to install if and when we want. I don't have a PS5 or Series X.
After a bit of research, I have seen that xbox's offline mode doesn't exactly work as though for at least digital games. Like you have to make your Xbox your "home console" like wth? At this point i dont think we have a console that can do fully offline anymore.
