So I've noticed a lot of people on here are currently playing Rise of the Tomb Raider. Coincidence or Illuminati? You tell me!

Anyway, I recently beat Tomb Raider (2013), and I'm currently 25% in Rise. I just did the Baba Yaga DLC quest, which was pretty cool IMO. I liked that boss fight a lot. There was a weird glitch that caused the companion girl to have no face animations, so it looked a bit like I was watching a Shenmue III trailer; but other than that I liked it.

Now, getting all the documents in the Vale in a pain in the arse however, not sure who decided it was a good idea to add some timed platforming sections in there...

I enjoyed the last 2, even though itโ€™s not what I really want from a TR game. Gunna get the new one once all the DLC is out!

@kyleforrester87 In my opinion the newest one is the closest to the Tomb Raider roots of the recent trilogy. Lots more raiding of tombs and solving puzzles and less mowing down enemies with an assault rifle. Great environments too.
Rise is a good game also. The gameplay is fun as well and Lara has so many options as far as combat. The story is probably the weakest of the three though.

@Th3solution It does feel that there's a bigger focus on combat in Rise. 2013 had many optional tombs, but it sometimes feels like the hunting and shooting overshadows it.

One thing I don't understand is all the weapons. I pick up a rifle and I suddenly have access to a whole bunch of them. May have been DLC that I didn't notice though.

I did enjoy the recent games, but after finishing Rise I kinda had enough of the series. I will pick up the latest one eventually, I felt the same after Far Cry 4 and currently playing 5 so you never know when I'll get the itch.

I got annoyed at the 2013 one when a cheevo (this was on 360) failed to pop up when I found 100% of the collectibles.

@Octane Thanks for making the thread. W(e should have more threads on series instead of separate games, really.)

It certainly feels like there are less optinoal tombs. At a certain point during the game (I think I was at 60% of my time with it) having the trophy pop for completing all tombs. And I remember thinking 'Really?! Already?!"

I like the game, but I really think the overdramatic tone hurts the game a lot. A bit more having fun doing cool stuff would be really appreciated.

@Kidfried I'm currently in the fourth snowy area, it's huuuge, so I can only presume it's the hub area like the how the fourth or so area with the plane crash was in Tomb Raider (2013).

Octane

Kidfried

@Octane Yea, the Soviet area is huge. Don't underestimate the rest of the maps though, the game was bigger than I anticipated. Enjoy!

Awesome. Can't have a Tomb Raider topic without Lara, though!

But yeah, lots of folks playing Rise lately. It went heavily towards the "action" side of action-adventure, despite the Challenge Tombs themselves being a little more in-depth than those from 2013. Part of me wants to even say that Shadow goes too far the other way; the combat is excellent, but so brief, whilst the maps are full to bursting with unique and diverse Challenge Tombs (especially when you factor in the ongoing DLC schedule). They sometimes integrate combat, though, so I feel like I'm looking for a fault when I shouldn't be.

In other words, to all playing Rise at the moment, Shadow comes highly recommended.

Yeah, I got it lined up in the ''to play stack''; depending on when I get to finish Rise, it's either Days Gone first, or Shadow in between Rise and Days Gone.

Yeah, I just favor tropical and jungle environments over snowy ones, for some reason too. Therefore Shadow > Rise. ๐Ÿ˜„

Plus, there's a Photo Mode in Shadow!

I'm dreading when I go back on to play the DLCs. My poor Capture Gallery has been so quiet of late!

So annoying, can't find the last document in the Soviet Installation, nothing on my map either. That's all I've left to do in that area too...

Octane

Kidfried

@Octane Oh... I remember I had that exact same thing.

Do you have the one in the underground tomb? After you raise the water, I think, you can swim to another one.

Kidfried

Octane

@Kidfried Yeah, it was that one! In ended up comparing my map to a completed map I found online to locate it. And the map that reveals the location of the document was right next to it; that's how I missed it I think.

Octane

Kidfried

@Octane I think I found that by Googling "where is the last document in Soviet Installation"

So... Have you completed the full game then?

Kidfried

Octane

@Kidfried Not yet. But I've done all areas so far. I'm currently in the hidden passage with the planetarium and all the undeads.

I've completed ROTR. Great game, not sure if I like this one better than the first one, but they're both very good in their own right.

I tried a bit of the Croft Manor in VR, and it's pretty neat. I used free roam mode, and I didn't get sick, so that's a good thing. I wish there were things like footstep sounds present, and maybe even a head bobbing effect when walking, because it feels very much like I'm on an on-rails ride when walking through the mansion. I'm not sure how other VR games deal with it, but there's still room to make it more immersive I think.

@Octane Cool. At the end of it all, I felt a little let down by the title compared to Tomb Raider 2013. It might have been due to overstaying its welcome a bit. The first few hours are amazing, but after 50% of the story it just feels like a do over from TR2013 a bit too much.

The Croft Manor stuff did make up for that quite a bit, though.

Kidfried

JohnnyShoulder

@Kidfried I felt pretty much the same too. Too much of the same things from the 2013 game. Think that is why I have little or no temptation to get the third game.
