Was wondering if you guys could steer me in the right direction instead of dong extensive google searches and the like. I grew up an RPG lover in the SNES and then PS1 era. Typical, old fashioned JRPGs. Stopped gaming right at the start of the ps2 gen and mised the entirety of that and the ps3. When I started gaming again a year ago, I bought a ps2 and started both replaying all my favorite ps1 rpg's and then moved onto the ps2 greats I missed, which I'm getting close to finishing now. Obviously ps3 will be next so if anyone has any input on that it'd be appreciated, too, but my main question is, knowing my tastes, what games coming up, mostly mainstream but indie as well, should I be excited about? I know nowadays RPGs tend to be other genres with rpg elements included. I'm open to those, too, but would definitely more prefer your typical "hero saves the world" type game. I'm not into horror type stuff at all, like a shadow hearts. To finish I'll list my top 10 rpg's and hopefully someone can give me a list of some games, thank you.
1 suikoden 2 .. 2 final fantasy 3 (snes) ... 3 final fantasy 7 ... 4 xenogears ... 5 suikoden ... 6 mario rpg ... 7 final fantasy 9 ... 8 chrono trigger ... 9 secret of mana ... 10 final fantasy 2 (snes)
Well I am not sure what RPGs are coming out on the PS4 the only thing I know that is close to that is in April Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn is due out but that is an MMORPG.

You could do worse than get a PSP. I'm not in to RPGs, but there was always plenty on it Maybe take a look at the PSN Store and see what's on there for download, could be worth getting a Vita and play them on that?
PSN: KALofKRYPTON (so you can see how often I don't play anything!)

Ya, im planning on both the psp nd vita. I also have already purchased a ps4, so it's disappointing to see no one is aware of any rpg's coming for it. Tales of (Zestiria?) is only ps3, or else that would have been great. MGS5 is "open world" and almost looks rpgish but my understandin of that series is it's very stealth-like, which is the exact opposite of my tastes.
I have owned a wii u for over a year and have been very disappointed. Now I'm pretty disappointed with what's on ps4's horizon. I got out of gaming before the xbox was created so i've never owned any xbox consoles and don't really have an interest.
Basically, I'm wondering if I'm going to be stuck playing a bunch of retro stuff and the new age gaming has passed me by.
Chill mate the PS4 "just came out" - wait for the gaming conferences this year and Im sure there is plenty of (general) stuff coming still in 2014. As for RPGs, I can only name the Witcher which is a great, deep RPG but also a western one, several indies that scratch your itch might be coming as well (forgot their name though) but if you want JRPG at the moment I'd really recommend a Vita on which you can play a lot of the PSPs offerings as well. Give the PS4 some time!
Good news all over is though that Sony seems to have stepped up their game translating games from JPN to western fans quite frequently now! We also get some oddballs lately (mainly on PS3 and Vita so far).

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
