It’s my favorite JRPG on the PS4. I can’t recommend it highly enough. For me, it’s up there with Persona 4 Golden. This game commands high prices and has a cult following. Battles get you physical items to use, and your characters gain levels thru social interaction, it actually works quite well.
@PSVR_lover Catherine. Does that count? I suppose not, it's more like a visual novel as you can't exactly level up, and it's crossed with a puzzle-platformer - but it is Japanese!

I put 500+ hours into that game & didn’t even scratch the surface.
4 & 5 are better, but I really like Mao.

Blue Reflections was the game I was interested in up until launch because it was Gust RPG and I generally like those. I didn’t get it in the end because push square gave it 4 out of 10 and it was fairly expensive.
@Ryall I’d say it’s the most under-rated ‘hardcore’ series. It’s brilliant. Perfect mix of humour & tactics.
If you like JRPG’s, Turn-based strategy, Disgaea is an easy recommend!

All/any of the disgaea series, what a way to spend a million hours grinding characters, items, world's etc. Probably enjoyed 4 the most. Also haven't gotten around to disgaea 1 complete so may have to try it when I get some time to see where it all began (anyone recommend this?) - think I joined the series at 3.

They didn’t know how popular the game would be when released so physical copies are now collectors items because the game has a large cult following. However, digital copies on PSN are at a good price when it is on sale. The fact that they want $$$ for the game 4 years after release says something. I’ve seen PS4 games go for 5 dollars when 4 years old.
@PSVR_lover I don’t think I’ve ever really played one properly apart from Final Fantasy 15 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake (I did start Persona 5 but after around 10-15 hours it just wasn’t clicking). I managed to get on with the two FF games I mentioned as opposed to any other JRPG’s due to the real time action I reckon. I’ve recently bought Yakuza: Like a Dragon which I hope will convert me to someone that can finally click with turn based combat when I eventually get around to playing it... I have my doubts though sadly.
Also, I’m one of the weirdos who preferred FFXV to FFVIIR... so I think there must be some breakdown in how my brain interprets JRPG’s going by what 99.999% of gamers think in this regard.
Its so interesting to read how different all of our experiences can be. For me personally, nearly ALL RPGs were JRPGs for a long time. I started on the NES with Dragon Warrior in the late 80s, and then Final Fantasy shortly after that. And then early action RPGs like Crystalis.
And then on the SNES things really kicked up with FF2 and FF3 (now known as 6, and one of my favorite games of all time), Chrono Trigger, and The Secret of Mana.
And then of course the PS1 had FF7, FF8 and FF9, and along with FFX, FF X2, FFXII (also an all time favorite), I enjoyed Xenosaga 1 & 2 on the PS2.
It wasn't really until the PS3 era, when I was in my 30s, than I ever really played a Western RPG, starting with Dragon Age and Mass Effect from Bioware and moving on from there.
I picked up a physical copy of Blue Reflection a few years ago off of eBay from the UK for around $80 I think, didn't know it has become scarce.
I ended up getting the platinum for it last year. Wonderful game, fairly easy, but that is because I did everything and got overpowered quickly. Fantastic art direction and story, if you like the magical girl genre, I can't say I do particularly but the game won me over with its charm.
I'll be there day one for the sequel. I was quite surprised at that bit of news, I didn't think it did well enough but Gust must care for the ip.
