I’m after a new monitor for PS4 and PS5.

I mostly play sport games like NHL, adventure and plattform

Looking for a monitor with great picture, smooth and fast, and ready for the future

What is the best monitor i can get?

@Deathwishphil For PS5 something with HDMI 2.1.

Samsung: Q95T or Q90T have 1 HDMI 2.1 port.
LG: the CX or C9 have 4 HDMI 2.1 ports.
Sony: the XH90 is planning a Firmware update at some point to allow it to handle HDMI 2.1.
Anything else won’t be able to handle 4K 120 frames a second.
Personally I’d wait till more displays are on the market and prices have come down a bit.

For the original PS4 any HDTV with an HDMI port would be fine. For the PS4 pro any 4K TV with an HDMI 2 port which most of them have.

Of course the new consoles will still support less advanced TVs you just lose some resolution or frame rate if the game is capable of putting out more then your TV can show.

@Deathwishphil The problem with the screen that @Kefka2589 mentioned for a PlayStation four is that it can only output at 720p,1080 p and in the case of the pro model 4K so you’re limited to monitors with one of those resolutions.

@Deathwishphil I'm not at all well versed in the whole monitor business, but I did build a PC myself last year and got me one I've been pretty happy with: a LG 24MK430H. It's a budget, 1080P and 75Hz monitor (which should be enough Hz since I doubt PS4/PS5 will ever display above 60). Just 24", but I imagine that would suffice if you plan to be close to it. I managed to snag it for just 100€, so it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Not sure if you're looking for someone this on the cheap side, but it's been a perfectly capable monitor in my experience and I've had no issues. I'm not a visuals nerd, but everything looks great as far as I'm concerned. Possibly one to keep in mind if you're looking for something in the lower budget range, since I know how overwhelming and frustrating it can get to scour through all these high end monitors!

@Tjuz I think some games already are stating that they will support 120hz on PS5, and it certainly does support this feature.

EDIT: Only one game so far, Dirt 5. But i think more games will support it going forward. Certainly feel its mor achievable than 8K, which the console also supports.

@JohnnyShoulder Ah, I wasn't aware of that, but that's cool! Honestly doubt you'd need more than 60Hz in most cases really, unless you're a very competitive shooter player I assume. Not that I'm the most knowledgeable about any of this stuff, but I've certainly never craved for more than 60. At least it supports it for whoever wants it, which is always good.

@Tjuz I've never really noticed when a game is running at higher or lower frame rate, only when there are sudden changes while playing. But I know some people who won't even play anything unless it is a minimum 60 FPS. They seem to be mostly PC gamers, so maybe they are just more used to it then us console peasants.
