Topic: A question about Blu Rays on the PS4...

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with a question I had. I was looking to buy some Blu Rays over the internet, and they're Region B Blu Rays. I thought the PS4 was completely region free, but apparently it isn't when it comes to movies, so I was wondering how Blu Ray regions correspond to game regions? Will my Australian PS4 be able to play a region B Blu Ray?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!

According to Google, yes

Blu-ray Region and Countries
Region code Area
A East Asia (except Mainland China and Mongolia), Southeast Asia, North America, South America and their dependencies.
B Africa, Southwest Asia, Europe (except Russia and Kazakhstan), Oceania (including Australia and New Zealand) and their dependencies.

Also to clarify, every Sony system succeeding the PS2 is region free when it comes to games. This includes, PSP, PS3, Vita, and PS4. You can buy any game from any region and it will work. Movies, on the other hand are indeed region coded. I believe SteveButler cleared up which regions work and where to buy them from.

@SaiyanFury: @Unashamed_116: although interestingly the Blu-Ray regions seem to be different to the DVD regions, which there are a lot more of if I remember correctly!

One thing that is great if you're a fan of anime is that Japanese DVDs are the same region as EU ones, meaning you can grab stuff early as long as you make sure you get a DVD that comes with English subs! Same goes for CDs if you're a fan of any Asian bands (eg I have a couple GazettE and Dir en Grey CDs)

EDIT: DVD regions in case you're interested

R1 Region 1 ~ U.S.A., U.S. Territories and Canada
R2 Region 2 ~ Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
R3 Region 3 ~ Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
R4 Region 4 ~ Mexico, South and Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
R5 Region 5 ~ Russia, Eastern Europe, India, Africa (excluding South Africa), North Korea, Mongolia
R6 Region 6 ~ China

I must confess, I do not reside in Europe, rather I'm Canadian borne living in the US. And yes I do recall that DVD regioning was rather more prolific than BD is now. Which really doesn't bother me, I simply unlock the region locking on whatever disc player I've got and play whatever I want from wherever region, haha.

@SaiyanFury: haha to be fair it doesn't really fuss me much either, these days I very rarely buy DVDs, but I figured as we were discussing regions I might as well dump that info here so that anybody interested has all the info in one place!

@SteveButler2210: Hey mate, I get it, that makes perfect sense to me. They said it best in Battletech back in the 90s (I don't know if you're old enough to remember that cartoon, haha) "information is ammunition". I still hold to that precept to this day.

Not answering your questions because its been well answered by other posters. Here is another Q probably not worth a thread on its own but why do some blurays keep the place where you last watched it while others you need to start again from the beginning?
