With the Playstation experience concentrating on PS4, VR and Vita - is the PS3 at the end if its lifecycle? Will developers forego ports of new games for last generation machines? And finally out of 10 how well did the PS3 perform in your opinion.

Personally I feel its been the end of the road for the PS3 (and XB360) ever since the release of Generation 8 consoles. Whilst I know its still had some releases, the fact many of the big games haven't had multi-generation releases 9Witcher 3, Batman:Arkham Knight etc) as well as we have started seeing significant differences between those on different generations in games - for example BO3's lack of campaign, gunsmith, paintjobs etc. Whilst it may continue to get a few games that are not exactly 'big' in terms of size or graphically intensive - things like Lego games for example, these are becoming fewer and fewer with each year. Its only a matter of time before these stop all together - I can't think of any Gen 7 only release!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Yakuza 5 is ps3 only isn't it? And that's still to be released. But Ya I think 7th gen is finished bar some yearly releases like Fifa and COD

Well if this isn't it will be here soon. Didn't Sony say that when the PS4 launch will would support the PS3 till 2017? Still with all the games PS3 had a consoles lifespan is only as long as you make it. I am still finding stuff to play on Genesis and Dreamcast.

For me, it'll end with the launch of Persona 5. After that, I'll just go back to my huge PS3 backlog...

The PS3 will find probably one or two games coming out in 2016, but other than that, Sony's going to focus their attention onto the bigger selling machine...PS4, and I'm sure many developers will probably do the same. It doesn't bother me though, as I still have some games to buy from the PS3 store (if it could speed up and stop booting me out after a few minutes) and I have a huge backlog that I'd like to start getting into. To the last part of your question, I'd give the PS3 an 8, only because it didn't get everything on it that it could have.

I missed the scoring part of the original post so out of 10, I would score the PS3 a 7. Whilst it did have some of the best looking games of that Generation and arguably these were also some of the best games too - Uncharted series/The last of us, it also was let down by poor performance of multi-platform releases (compared to XB360) and the PSN just isn't as good as Live either. I felt games played 'slower' albeit by a slight degree, on PSN compared to Live - particularly noticeable when playing the same game first on XB360 and then jumping onto the PS3 version. In its favour though, online gaming was free so it was more forgiveable.
The games specifically designed and built for the PS3's architecture showed its potential but not often realised. Its controller for me was 'uncomfortable' for prolonged gaming sessions too. The weird angle of the triggers were very uncomfortable for racing games and even many FPS games used the shoulder buttons to aim and shoot instead of the 'triggers'.
It certainly had some of my favourite Exclusives of last gen - Uncharted my favourite but we also had Killzone, Resistance (shame that's gone), Infamous etc too. Like I said I do feel a lot of the 3rd Party games didn't run quite so well on the PS3 compared to the 360 but in most cases these weren't that bad, although some were terrible.
Overall I think a score of 7/10 is fair. It was a good solid console in general with a more restrictive architecture that hindered third party developers. Its PSN was OK for free too but I do feel (even today) its not as good as the competition. Its clear that Sony have learned a lot from its PS3 and made significant improvements for its PS4.
(incidentally for comparison, I rate the XB360 as 7.5, XB1 as 8, PS4 as 8.5 as they stand today)

It will not get many more new releases but still think the console has life left in it. As an all round machine I enjoyed it whether it was playing movies (MP4) blurays, storing photos or music. It was an all round machine for me. I would give it a 9 it was a much bigger jump graphic wise than any of the other generations of PS. I will still keep it around for a few games that I can not play on PS4.

Still a ton of games to play, either in backlog or that I never got.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Is there a list of PS3 games slated for 2016 anywhere?
